Currently, ManTech is seeking a motivated, career and customer-oriented Concentrating Solar Power (CSP) Technical Advisor to join our team in Washington, D.C. supporting the Department of Energy (DOE).
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Serve as an advisor (seniority and responsibilities based on experience):
To SETO’s leadership to advance the Office’s mission and programs relevant to CSP.
In the development, execution and management of new funding programs that provide funding to innovative teams seeking to advance their solutions from an early stage to manufacturing at scale
For strategic planning and SETO participation in cross-cutting activities involving other programs in EERE, the Department of Energy (DOE), and the Federal Government.
Assess current and emerging CSP technologies and market opportunities and identify benefits/challenges of applying those technologies into integrated commercial energy systems.
Serve as a technical advisor in the development of user requirements, evaluation of proposed technical designs/applications, technical progress evaluations and risk assessments/mitigation planning.
Prepare scientific/technical material for and participate in stakeholder engagement forums such as conferences, symposiums and technical interchange meetings that may include government representatives, academia and industry partners.
Contribute to the technology strategic planning, research idea formulation/execution, cost/benefits analyses, technical progress assessments and technology transfer efforts.
Assist in reviews of application materials, provide thoughtful comments and complete pre-screening of related documents on behalf of the government customer to support current and future competitive solicitations.
Assist the government team with the synthesis of information flow from Federal Contract Managers and Industry Partnerships, support decision-making, and ensure execution of directives at Federal offices, National Laboratories, and industry partnership organizations.
Conduct research and prepare technical briefings, white papers, or related deliverables as assigned.
Ability to manage a dynamic portfolio of many projects/programs ensuring all major priority items are accomplished on time and according to plan.
Demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills on highly technical subjects.
Basic Qualifications:
Experience in commercialization activities preferred. Specifically technical expertise desired may include:
Strong analytical capabilities and experience in conducting risk versus payoff assessments to guide funding priorities and project initiation or termination decisions in a complex R&D environment.
Ability to manage a dynamic portfolio of many projects/programs ensuring all major priority items are accomplished on time and according to plan.
Demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills on highly technical subjects.
Master’s degree or higher in physical sciences or engineering
At least 5 years of experience working with experts in the public or private sectors to advance technologies or R&D relevant to CSP technologies.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in commercialization activities preferred. Specifical technical expertise desired may include:
R&D or commercial design of CSP systems and/or components
Design and/or characterization of optical-mechanical devices, especially concentrating solar collectors
Design and/or operation of high-temperature thermochemical processes
Industrial process heating systems and components
Thermal power system design, engineering, construction, and/or operation
High-temperature materials systems
Other expertise relevant to concentrating solar-thermal technologies for power generation, industrial process heating, or chemicals production.
Security Clearance Requirements: Applicants must be a US Citizen and Ability to obtain a DOE Public Trust (Must obtain Public Trust clearance prior to setting start date)
Physical Requirements:
Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing/walking/Talking and must be able to remain in a stationary position 50%.
​Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one work site to another.
The person in this position needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
Requires frequently communicates with co-workers, management and customers which may involve delivering presentations. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
Communicating with others to exchange information.
Must be able to assess the quality of applications, reports and other data.
Working with computers.
