Job description

Summary: The SME and Curriculum Designer for the Introduction to Social Media course will follow specific guidelines and apply best practices in instructional design to review, design, and author instructional content for an existing high-school Introduction to Social Media elective course that needs to be upgraded and improved.

The course will require subject matter expertise related to the following topics in the course:

  • History and Evolution of Social Media
  • Popular Social Media Platforms
  • Social Media Marketing
  • Creating Content
  • Video Marketing
  • Future Trends in Social Media
  • Career Exploration in Social Media

Desired Availability: 25 - 35 hrs per week

Project Timeline: November 2021 - June 2022

Experience: 3+ years

Qualification: Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Education, Communication, or related field.

Desired Skills:

  • Detail oriented (good attention to detail)
  • Creative problem solving
  • Strong writing skills for online instructional materials
  • Ability to identify appropriate multimedia and interactive content to support instruction
  • Solid foundation in instructional design principles
  • Excellent command over written and spoken English language
  • Experience with developing instructional content and assessments for K-12 students
  • Experience creating content in a learning management system
  • Knowledge of Understanding by Design (Backwards Design)
  • Proficient with Google docs, sheets, slides and MS Office applications
  • Self-motivated and willing to learn new processes and skills to complete tasks efficiently
  • Growth mindset, ability to flexibly adjust as requirements change
  • Teaching experience is a plus

Additional Advantages:

  • Experience working with U.S. curriculum or courses for high school students
  • Good knowledge of U.S. writing style or standards - Chicago, AP, or APA style guides
  • Knowledge of Universal Design for Learning
  • Knowledge of web accessibility (WCAG AA standards)
  • Knowledge of copyright and Creative Commons licensing

Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate instructional design of courses and suggest and/or author original instructional content to improve course design according to specified focus areas
  • Ensure that instructional content and assessments are aligned to specific learning objectives
  • Evaluate and make revisions to course scope and sequence to ensure courses are appropriately structured to meet the learning objectives, content standards, and course design requirements
  • Use reliable sources on the Internet to verify content accuracy
  • Apply specified writing and style guidelines to content review and development
  • Create storyboards including scripts for media elements like videos
  • Create grade-appropriate assessment questions for given learning objectives using the content templates in the LMS
  • Collaborate with instructional designers (IDs) to develop course content including instructional text, audio/video scripts, and assessments, as needed
  • Collaborate and communicate with the course development team (directors, track leads, project managers, IDs, and media designers) to develop course content according to specifications
  • Make revisions to content based on feedback from reviews
  • Raise queries for clarification and communicate concerns in a timely manner
  • Adhere to project deadlines and requirements
