Formulate, communicate, and externally advocate BI Animal Health's position on public policy issues affected by the federal and state governments. Advance BI Animal Health policy positions with trade associations, legislative coalitions, advocacy groups and other stakeholders. Advocate for open access and mitigate business impediments in government animal health programs and the animal health system. The Senior Associate Director oversees Animal Health issues and is responsible for coordinating with Government Affairs and Public Policy colleagues, as well as the BI Corporation Political Action Committee.

Duties & Responsibilities\:

  • Advocate and advance BI positions on public policy issues with targeted external advocacy and professional groups.
  • Encourage external adoption of BI policy positions by BI trade associations to leverage their lobbying and influence to advance our priorities. Collaborate with trade associations to improve regulations and legislation and shape priorities.
  • Align BI positions with influential national legislative coalitions. Seek opportunities to enhance our business, advance BI policy positions, bolster corporate reputation, and differentiate BI.
  • Plan GAPP strategies and tactics to support BI business objectives with state and federal policy-makers and third parties. Execute tactics through outreach and collaboration with stakeholders based in Washington, D.C. and at the state level.
  • Track and analyze effects of state and federal legislation and regulation on BI's businesses.
  • Develop strategies for key legislative and regulatory issues to mitigate risks and advance potential opportunities.
  • Provide strategic policy and political guidance to OPUs and other departments to prepare for legislative and regulatory proposals and evaluate the impact on our business.
  • Develop resources and materials to support analysis of proposals and positioning regarding BI policy positions.
Requirements\:
  • Bachelors degree from an accredited institution required.
  • A minimum of six (6) years of combined experience in government affairs in private industry or consulting firm are required, plus four to six (4-6) years of project leadership experience.
  • Experience working with influential groups in Washington, D.C., including trade associations and the advocacy community.
  • Requires advanced knowledge of state and federal government affairs and public policy, including policy analysis and government relations.
  • Knowledge of pharmaceutical industry and related public policy issues is required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to convey complex and changing legislation, regulations, and the impact to BI.
  • Influencing and persuasion skills to successfully advocate our positions externally.
  • Analytical skills to understand key components of legislation and the potential effect on BI and the industry.
