SOME (So Others Might Eat) exists to help homeless and poor individuals and families of Washington, DC. Our more than 30 programs throughout the District provide comprehensive services that lead to mental and physical health, continued sobriety, job training, living-wage employment, and affordable housing. We meet immediate needs with food, clothing, and healthcare and offer the tools one needs to live with hope, dignity, and greater independence.
SOME (So Others Might Eat) is currently seeking a full-time Volunteer Relations Coordinator for our Family Services department.
POSITION DESCRIPTION: The Volunteer Relations Coordinator will recruit, process and conduct training and orientation for volunteers in the Family Services department. The Volunteer Relations Coordinator will also coordinate management of volunteers and donors, employ retention strategies and work with programs to identify needs. The incumbent will develop partnerships with organizations to provide programming and fill in service gaps.
Covid-19 Considerations: SOME (So Others Might Eat) currently has a mandatory Covid-19 vaccination policy. All employees are required to have completed the Covid-19 vaccination prior to hiring. Submission of Covid-19 Vaccination Card is required.
Required: Bachelor's Degree; 2-4 yrs. social services experience and working with volunteers
Preferred: Bachelor's Degree; 4-6 yrs. social services experience and working with volunteers.Driver's License and access to personal vehicle.
Required License/Certification: CPR/First-Aid, CPR for Infants
Basic Schedule: Monday - Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Flexible to work evenings/weekends, as needed.

Expected Contributions:
Volunteer Management: Recruit volunteers for Family Housing. Complete thorough vetting and onboarding of volunteers to include background checks, FBI fingerprinting, etc. Provide outreach with community organizations, schools, and churches to promote volunteer opportunities. Coordinate presentations to community organizations to present volunteer opportunities. Travel to community organizations to provide outreach with the goal of volunteer recruitment or partnership development. Develop partnerships with organizations that may provide tutoring and mentoring and other program services. Create memo of understanding (MOU) for cooperation with organizations. Identify organizational opportunities for volunteers and define needs. Evaluate volunteer opportunities to determine skills needed. Monitor and support volunteers.
Program Coordination: Provide outreach and create partnerships with local homeownership programs and financial management entities. Coordinate financial management and homeownership programming for residents in Accelerated Housing Program. Coordinate efforts to ensure residents have adequate transportation to housing counseling and financial meetings. Work with FSCM to ensure all resident's needs are being met and make referrals as necessary. As residents transition out of the program, work with Senior Director on selection and intake process. Complete documentation and provide data and statistics as applicable.
