Overview

The Hotel Accountant is responsible for providing consistent leadership in the financial area of the hotel by supplying the accounting staff with guidance and training. He/she is also responsible for focusing on the profitability of the business, maintaining accurate and timely financial reporting, ensuring acceptable levels on internal control, ensuring compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, and safeguarding owners/investors assets.

Responsibilities


    -Assist Hotel Management in timely preparation of monthly financial statements for the property.
    -Prepare, monitor, and accurately record hotel revenues daily by preparation of the Income Journal. Identify all variances to budget and last year.
    -Monitoring and control of hotel operations, cash flow and operating forecasts for the property.
    -Under guidance of Hotel Management maintain timely interaction with Directors to assure that property operations are always on track and under control.
    -Review & prepare Hotel & HOA employee payroll, including calculation of service charges and the printing of checks.
    -Manage and Reconcile Intercompany accounts between Hotel and HOA, if applicable
    -Post charges & fees for services provided to owners (management, grocery, cleanings, amenities, etc.).
    -Calculate and manage related rental income to owners
    -Review and approve Accounts Payable invoices along with the third-party accounting team
    -Prepare and print Accounts Payable checks and/or initiate electronic payments of approved invoices.
    -Preparation of monthly bank reconciliations and general ledger account reconciliations for the property utilizing the online system provided by the Hotel Management.
    -Supervision of third-party accounting staff and vendors.
    -Compliance with Highgate Accounting Policies and Procedures and internal controls for our finance and accounting operations.
    -Ensure the proper utilization, maintenance, and periodic upgrades of all equipment.
    -Directs or prepares all financial reports in accordance with Highgate Hotels' requirements meeting various due dates and deadlines, i.e.,
    Weekly: A/R & A/P Aging Cashflow Flash Reports Revenue Updates
    Monthly: Financial/Owner Rental Statements Forecasting Key Statistics Report
    Annual: Budgets
    -Effectively manage and communicate related issues related to management of receivables, payables, daily cash balances, and timely deposits of all funds.
    -Monitor hotel revenues and expenses and ensure the accurate recording in accordance with Highgate Hotel's established guidelines. Investigate and critique variances to budget or to prior year and offer practical improvement methodologies to management.
    -Analyze financial data and operations to assist Hotel Management and advise Directors in maintaining the hotels' financial objectives.
    -With supervision of Hotel Management hire, train, supervise and develop staff.
    -Preparation of any special reports, statements, etc., as requested.
    -Perform other duties as may be required (all team members are required to cross train and cover each other as necessary).
    -Other special projects and responsibilities as assigned.
