Position Expectation

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

* Under the direction of the Administrative Director, notes physician orders, assists with lab tests and physical exams, nursing assessments and draws blood from clients, as necessary.
* Under the direction of the Administrative Director, reviews and evaluates specific charts for medical conditions that may prevent admission into a facility.
* Under the direction of the Administrative Director, makes entries in client medical records in accordance with unit policy, licensing rules, and accreditation standards.
* Under the direction of the Administrative Director, monitors electronic health records and helps reduce medication errors and improves reporting of adverse drug events.

* Provides training and prepares course curriculum for the training of unlicensed direct care staff regarding safe medication practices in the observation of medications in residential facilities.
* Outlines and trains on the safety guidelines for prescribing, observing, delivering, storing, monitoring, and properly disposing of medications in residential facilities that aids with self-administration of medications.
* Instructs staff how to read medication instructions on a prescription label, a providers order, and proper recording on the Medication Observation Record (MOR).
* Instructs staff on the general side effects of medications and classes of drugs and the need to report adverse drug events.
* Instructs staff on how to measure liquid solutions and suspensions, break scored tablets, and crush tablets as directed by prescription order.
* Instructs staff how to develop and understand the types of questions to ask a provider (physician, or mid-level) regarding the P/S medications.
* Provide Nursing Assessments, administer PPD and COVID19 tests.
* Other reasonable and related duties.

Minimum Training and Experience

Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing and current licensure by the Florida Board of Nursing as a Registered Nurse. Multiple years of practical experience as a nurse in a hospital or clinic is required as well, along with up-to-date training certifications. A nurse educator frequently travels to receive continuing education and interact with other institutions to assist in the mutual development of best practices in policy and training. Experience in a mental health, substance abuse, and/or co-occurring treatment setting is preferred
