Job description

The Preschool Assistant Teacher is responsible for assisting with general classroom management and supervision, which includes the personal care, hygiene, and positive discipline of the children. He or she plans and implements activities for children that stress physical, social, and emotional growth and provides materials and resources for children to explore, manipulate, and use, both in learning activities and in active play. The Assistant Teacher helps prepare materials and the classroom for class activities and conducts all activities in a safe, organized, and productive manner.

The ideal candidate has their DCF 45 Hour training completed, a college degree in Early Childhood Education, and at least three years of experience in a similar environment. Candidates must meet all state requirements for classroom teaching positions, must maintain state in-service requirements, and must be physically able to interact with children on a day to day basis (stoop and bend, lift up to 30 pounds, etc.). Certifications in Child/Infant CPR and First Aid, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and good computer skills required.
