LIFEGUARD/ PARKS & RECREATION
PART TIME POSITION- $11.37/HOUR- WEEKENDS A MUST
GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB
Under general direction, maintains water and swimmer safety at the City's Aquatic Center by observing swimmers and performing the responsibilities of a competent lifeguard, assuring the safety of all patrons in the water, water conditions and surrounding areas. Actively prevents accidents from occurring at the Aquatic Center. Sets an example to his/her peers, and public patrons in performing the job in a professional and conscientious manner and displays reliability and consistency in performance. Reports to the Aquatic Manager or Recreation Supervisor.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Assists in preparation for full operation of aquatic facility prior to pool opening which may include cleaning facility, removing and/or recovering the pool blanket and checking water condition prior to entry of swimmers.
Attends all orientation and training sessions.
Maintains safety and order in assigned work area in a competent manner; maintains alertness at all times while observing patrons in and around the facility.
Enforces all rules and regulations governing the City of Cocoa Beach Aquatic Center. Corrects/Reprimands patrons in a tactful and professional manner.
Responsible for checking weather conditions for thunderstorms or other weather-related events which could create an unsafe environment.
Rescues swimmers in distress; administers first aid to the injured; administers CPR or artificial respiration if necessary; calls for emergency assistance when needed.
Reports all accidents to the Pool Lead or Manager and completes accident report.
Helps maintain a clean facility.
Assists in the operation of the facility in other capacities as required.
Deals with inquiries or complaints from the public in a diplomatic and respectful manner. Maintains good and courteous relations with patrons, staff and management.
Informs the Pool Lead and Aquatic Manager of any problems or changes in regard to the general operation of the facility.
Assists in the execution of special programs as needed.
ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Performs other related work as required.
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Minimum age of 16 years old with cash handling experience (preferred). Must be in good physical condition and knowledgeable in required technical skills. Must have good knowledge or the ability to be trained on the safety and emergency procedures of a swimming pool facility in and around the water. Must be knowledgeable or trainable in the principles involved in people and safety management and have the ability to maintain effective working relationships with others.
Upon employment, must hold certificates through the YMCA, Red Cross or Ellis, in Lifeguard Training, CPR-PR and First Aid certificate. Reliable source of transportation required.
Required to sign the Affidavit of Moral Character (provided at onboarding).
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OR STANDARDS REQUIRED
TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Physical Requirements: Must be physically able to operate a variety of machinery and equipment including computers, typewriters, copiers, calculators, facsimile machines, etc. Must be able to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to a negligible amount of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Work may involve standing, walking and running. Requires the ability to maintain body equilibrium when bending, stooping, crouching, climbing, reaching and/or stretching arms, legs or other parts of body, and to physically maneuver over and/or upon varying terrain, surfaces or physical structures. Physical demand requirements are for Light to Medium Work
