Job description

Demetech is searching for a Controller to join our Accounting team. The Controller will be responsible for overseeing financial statements like balance sheets, invoices, accounts payable, and accounts receivable. Their duties include directing the Accounting department operations, compiling financial reports based on financial statements, and implementing policies and procedures for financial reporting and budgeting. The position reports directly to the CEO.


Key responsibilities include:


  • Responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating all accounting operational functions
  • Assist management with important financial decisions.
  • Send daily reports to Management on cash flow.
  • Prepare financial documents such as business reports, financial forecasts, and statements to understand the financial state of business
  • Oversee the coordination and activities of independent auditors and the preparation of the annual financial statements, Form 990 tax filings, and other regulatory reporting.
  • Formulate company budgets and ensure that expenses are in line with projected revenue.
  • Supervise employees who work under the controller in preparing financial reports and budgets
  • Monitor a company's financial reports and determine ways to reduce costs
  • Keep up-to-date on the financial market to understand how to maximize profits and find new expansion areas
  • Understand the financials of a company in order to meet legal requirements and keep the financial state in good standing
  • Demonstrate strategic thinking in planning for the organization's short-term and long-term financial future.
  • Responsible for ensuring systems of internal controls are in place to safeguard the organization's assets.
  • Assessing current accounting operations, offering recommendations for improvement and implementing new processes
  • Evaluating the effectiveness of accounting software and supporting database, as needed
  • Developing and monitoring business performance metrics
  • Training and retaining skilled accounting staff


Qualifications and educational requirements:


Education: Bachelor's Degree


Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar position.


Skills:

  • The ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and management about the finances of the business and justify certain financial recommendations
  • Basic math skills to make accurate calculations and estimates
  • Good judgment with the ability to make timely and sound decisions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Dependable and detail-oriented.



Technical Proficiencies: Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs and accounting software.
