This position is part of the Abandoned Property Team which performs critical and time sensitive abandoned account identification, statutory due diligence and regulatory escheatment reporting. This role involves contact with clients, branch office personnel and external state unclaimed property employees with a focused goal of reuniting client's with their assets. The teammate in this role is responsible for the reporting process which involves reviewing the various jurisdictional laws, identifying which properties are eligible and due for escheatment, compiling and formatting the report, physically filing the report with the appropriate state agency, and ultimately, delivering the assets in accordance with the reporting jurisdiction's law. This team works closely with submitting lines of business and the various states to ensure reporting is done in compliance with jurisdictional mandates.
Additional duties include:
• Providing superior client service
• Conducting research and outreach to reunite abandoned clients with their assets
• Answering client calls and email inquiries while processing various assignments
• Performing regular account maintenance, including document review, to ensure accuracy
• Facilitating the transfer of assets into and out of abandoned property
• Reconciling accounts in advance of reporting and remitting assets to State
• Learning all departmental processes and being cognizant of downstream effects on other areas
• Mitigating risk by identifying and proposing process improvements
• Communicating (written and verbal) with various branch offices, clients, and/or State representatives
Required Skills
- Leadership experience
- Customer Service Skills
- Experience supporting Abandoned / Unclaimed Property and Escheatment, Merrill Lynch Lines of Business / Clients, or Compliance, EPO, and Risk/Control.
- Experience with complex spreadsheets, including familiarity with formulas, macros, formatting, and data manipulation
- Effective organizational and time management skills
- Demonstrates attention to detail
- Ability to work in a fast paced environment
