Job description
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
Create a positive, enriching academic environment for participants.
Follow the daily activity schedule set by the program/site supervisor.
Support literacy and reading required of 2.5 hours a week with the use of lesson plans.
Document the development of childrens social skills.
Ensure the children have hour of supervised physical activities each day, including a plan for inclement weather activities. For longer program day, the physical activities will be increased to at least one-hour total, in hour increments.
Assist students with completion of the daily school homework
Demonstrate respect for parents at all times and invite them to join in regular program activities and special parent events.
Attend mandatory staff trainings and meetings, to improve professional skills and enhance the program activities. (Staff will be paid their contracted hourly rate for staff training/meeting hours up to 10 hours a year.
Assist children in the use of educational computer lab.
Make sure the childrens nutritional needs are met through the daily snack (or lunch/snack during longer program day.)
Model and reinforce the washing of hands and cleanliness, especially before meals/snacks and after using the bathroom.
PROGRAM EXPECTATIONS AND DUTIES
Assist with the sign in-and sign-out of each participate daily, to ensure their whereabouts and that only authorized individual pick-up the child at the end of the program day.
Wear the required identification of a staff t-shirt and/or neck badge at all times during program hours (onsite and offsite field trips.)
Wear work required clothes; comfortable & appropriate clothing in order to implement core program components. Closed toe shoes, sneakers, slats, pants, long shorts, no leggings or inappropriate language on clothes that promote unhealthy lifestyle.
Must have a charged cell phone or program walkie-talkie on their person for immediate contact in case of emergency.
Ensure that drinking water is available to the children at all times (especially during outdoor play and physical education activities) to protect against dehydration.
Ensure the safety of children during program hours through a daily, documented monitoring for safety hazards (such as broken equipment or furniture, toxic or caustic chemicals or cleaning agents) of both indoor and outdoor space.
Monitor the cleanliness of the bathroom facilities and re-stock the paper and cleaning products once per day (on four-hour program days) and twice per day on the longer program days.
In case of emergency, accident or injury, staff will inform site supervisor who will check the Student Emergency Contact file for information on allergies, medical and doctor information, parent notification and authorized student pick-up.
Incident/injury reports will be filled out by site supervisor or 2nd in charge, signed by staff who witnessed incident on the same day. All incident reports will be sent to HFM Administrative office by the end of the program day. Incidents requiring medical attention will be brought to the attention of HFM Administrative office by telephone immediately. Follow up form must be filled out as well within 5 days of the incident.
Staff will safeguard the confidentiality of student or family information on file, especially medical conditions, family income and benefits eligibility, and student academic performance. Confidentiality Agreement is mandatory to be signed.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Minimum of High School, Preferred Associate Degree in related field
Work towards 45 Hours DCF /Florida Child Care Professional Credentials
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Available to work the required program hours
Reliable personal transportation and personal cell phone
Demonstrated experience working with children
Positive response to criminal background check (fingerprint)
