Job description

The Business Development Director is responsible for developing growth opportunities and new client business within the Construction Industry by pursuing business opportunities with strategic targets. In addition, cultivate relations with existing clients by following up with them on how our teams are performing and in which areas can we improve to exceed their expectation. Communicate compelling value proposition to potential clients by overseen all aspects of the sales process, including development of future opportunities, product specific sales strategy by leading the entire sales process until the final close of the contract.


Responsibilities and Duties:

  1. Research prospective clients in targeted markets, pursue leads and follow through to arrange meetings to meet Key Decisions Makers.
  2. Understand the Target Markets of Thornton Construction, and develop a Value Proposition that would attract clients to the Company.
  3. Collaborate with CEO, Executive Vice President, Vice President, Business Unit Leaders to ensure securing the set revenues and gross margins set for the various Business Unit Sectors.
  4. Identify Sales Leads in line with Thornton's Business Unit Sectors and within the Geographic area for the Company.
  5. Develop and Maintain strong relationships with current clients to mine for new business opportunities.
  6. Possess a strong understanding of Thornton's experience, culture, staff and that of our competition for each of the Business Sectors.
  7. Follow the latest developments within our company's Business Sectors and stay up-to-date on corporate competitors.
  8. Plan and Prepare presentations and submittals for RFQs and/or RFPs, as well as assist the Marketing Manager in preparing presentations and submittals for RFQs and/or RFPs.
  9. Communicate new product development to prospective clients.
  10. Update the RFQ and RFP Log on a weekly basis
  11. Provide management with feedback to the client's 'Hot Buttons"
  12. Attend networking events and participate in them as needed.
  13. Identify new and merging markets by research, direct prospecting, networking attendance and participation with various industry and professional groups.
  14. Develop Win Strategies for those opportunities that we will be pursuing

Qualifications and Skills:

  1. Minimum of Five Years proven track record in business development within construction or related market
  2. Bachelor's Degree in related field
  3. Excellent Organizational skills, with emphasis on priorities and meeting deadlines.
  4. Strong proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, InDesign, and Photoshop.
  5. Superior Presentation and Communication Skills, both written and verbal.
  6. Technical skills required to understand and propose products or solutions by focusing on client requirements.
  7. Ability to communication information, whether technical or non-technical to staff members, senior management and customers, in a clear and concise manner.
