T he Office of the Vice Provost for Research & Scholarship, Research Intelligence & Capacity unit has a great opportunity for a Business Systems Analyst (Strategic Initiatives) position located at the Coral Gables Campus.

CORE JOB SUMMARY

The Business Systems Analyst collects data and provides analysis to assist in the development of technology plans and strategies to enhance overall performance, reduce costs, and increase efficiencies. The incumbent in this position analyzes established operations, systems, methods, practices, and procedures to evaluate their effectiveness and ultimately make recommendations of new processes and procedures. The Business Systems Analyst integrates people, equipment, facilities, and other resources to improve work results, operating efficiency, effectiveness, and productivity.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS

+ Designs, develops, and maintains business intelligence reports and dashboards.

+ Develops detailed action plan with goals, target dates and recommendations on how reports can be developed using BI tools; also obtains necessary approvals based on user reporting needs.

+ Maintains ongoing communications with stakeholders and staff to gather and document reporting and dashboard requirements.

+ Develops a strong understanding of user reporting needs and makes implementation recommendations on how those reports can be developed using reporting tools. Development may include some requirements gathering, design, deployment, and on-going enhancements.

+ Manages and maintains the Extract, Transform, and Load processes, implementing technical solutions to determine report design strategies.

+ Manages, maintains, and supports data warehouse systems and related data marts.

+ Oversees data design and the creation of database architecture and data repositories.

+ Flowcharts existing processes versus improved flow.

+ Prepares time and cost estimates for projects and proposals.

+ Conducts research for best practice models and benchmarking.

+ Applies industrial and management engineering techniques such as process designs, optimizations models, forecasting methodologies, and chain management principles, to improve overall systems.

+ Analyzes existing flow of people, activities, and materials, employee work methods and utilization, policies and procedures, staffing levels, supervisory structure, space utilization, supply and demand optimization methods, forms, equipment, and computerized systems.

+ Reviews, tests and evaluates reports, queries, dashboards and analytical tools developed by teammates prior to move to production, after system upgrades, implementation of new system features and integrations.

+ Looks for opportunities to improve current processes or find efficiencies by applying industry best practices for BI development.

+ Designs improved work systems by revising work standards, policies, and procedures.

+ Designs systems for production and inventory control in buying, storing, handling, processing, and usage of materials and supplies.

+ Assists with design of facilities and management systems and standard operating procedures.

+ Develops management control systems to aid in financial planning and cost analysis.

+ Improves productivity through the application of technology and human factors.

+ Assists with designing supply chain management standards across the institution.

+ Collects data to measure baseline versus improvement before and after recommendations are implemented.

+ Prepares presentations of projects and studies, including data collected, methodology used, results obtained, recommendations for improvement, and cost and savings involved.

+ Participates in continuing quality improvement activities.

+ Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

Bachelor's degree in relevant field required.

Certification and Licensing:

+ Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate: SQL 2016 BI Development preferred

+ Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate: BI Reporting preferred

Experience:

Minimum 1 year of relevant experience of technology, project management, analysis of business systems. Any appropriate combination of experience and/or certifications may be considered.

Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:

+ Demonstrated abilities in presentation, analytical, computer and technical skills.

+ Excellent interpersonal skills.

+ Outstanding oral and written communication skills.

+ Highly self-motivated.

+ Works effectively as part of a team or independently utilizing skills to manage multiple tasks and deadlines, establish priorities, set objectives, and achieve stated goals.

+ Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Pivot Tables, PowerPoint, Access).

+ Strong knowledge of Reporting Tools, Power BI, OBIEE, database technologies (SQL, database management, ETL), etc.

+ Ability to communicate ideas and problem solutions.

+ Ability to effectively work with individuals with diverse backgrounds (technical and non-technical) and liaise with other business units, departments and/or outside of the enterprise.

+ Skill in collecting, organizing, and analyzing data.

+ Ability to recognize, analyze, and solve a variety of problems.

+ Ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions.
