Job description

Nature of Work Benefits Supplemental Questions

Enforces regulations and protects life at a City pool. Supervises and schedules the work assignments of part-time and temporary lifeguards and/or other part-time and temporary staff as needed. May instruct and/or organize classes on water safety, life saving procedures, swimming, etc. Assists with in-service trainings for aquatics personnel. An employee in this position must have the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Patrols and observes pool area to ensure appropriate use by patrons. Rescues patrons in distress as needed. Administers Standard First Aid and/or CPR as needed. Administers advanced first aid to the more severe injuries suffered by bathers. Tests pool water and adjust chemical balance as needed. Advises supervisor of needed pool or equipment repairs, and assists with scheduling of repairs. Assists with periodic inspections of rescue and emergency life support equipment. Performs custodial and/or janitorial tasks to maintain a clean facility area. Tallies the daily collection of monies received. Reports to the Pool Supervisor or designee. Performs related work as required.

Minimum Requirements:

A high school diploma or its equivalent and six (6) months of experience as a lifeguard.

The following valid certificates, and/or wallet card(s) issued by the American Red Cross or other nationally recognized certifying agency, must be possessed at time of application and maintained valid throughout employment:

* National Recreation and Park Association Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO), Certification or National Swimming Pool Foundation Certified Pool/Spa Operator (CPO) Certification
* Lifeguard Training
* First Aid, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer
* Water Safety Instructor
* Lifeguard Instructor

Certifications must be valid through June 30, 2021.

Must be able to pass the City of Miami's performance test, which may include swimming, running and simulate rescue exercises.

NOTE:

Employees in this classification will be required to work various shifts, to include nights, holidays and weekends.

SPECIAL NOTE:

Candidates will be subject to a Level II background screening.

If submitting transcripts, submitted transcripts must include the following: student's name, school name, number of credits, degree completion, and major.
* Translations of degrees are not accepted as proof of education.
* Degree audits are not accepted as substitution for proof of education.

* Proof of required Certificates: Copies of the following Certificates documents issued by the American Red Cross or other nationally recognized certifying agency must be uploaded and attached to the application prior to submission:

All certifications will be verified.

NOTE:

Applications will be deemed ineligible unless copies of the required documents are uploaded and attached to the employment application at the time of submission. Certifications must be issued by the American Red Cross, American Heart Association or other nationally recognized certifying agency and kept current throughout employment.

Applicants must be available to report to work by Spring 2021 and through the summer season. Start date will depend on assigned facility. Attendance to a mandatory orientation session prior to work assignment is required.

City of Miami employee applications must reflect their current position and detail their work experience. City of Miami employees must upload and attach all required documentation to their application prior to submission.

Resumes may be attached, however; information must be clearly detailed on the application, as resumes are not accepted or reviewed in lieu of the employment application.

Toxicology: Prospective employees may be required to submit to toxicology, medical and background screening. All costs associated with background screenings may be at the applicant's expense.

Veterans Preference: Veterans Preference is awarded in accordance with Florida State Statute 295.07. If veteran's preference is being claimed, it must be indicated on the application form and proper documentation, including all forms DD-214 (Member 4) and the applicable FDVA- Veteran's Preference Certification Form(s) in accordance with rule 55A-7.013 - Documentation of Preference Claim, must be submitted with the employment application.
