Job description

Responsible for keeping the organization's network and data communication infrastructure operational and secure. Designs, programs, and supports network systems and associated software; including routers, switches, firewalls, WAN Optimization, SD-WAN, network and routing protocols, WANs/LANs, and other similar systems. Effectively integrates these systems with other enterprise infrastructure and Internet-based services and protocols. Responsible for configuration, implementation, and maintenance of on-premise and cloud-based networking systems and various related technologies. Provides direction and implementation of additions, deletions, and major modifications to the network infrastructure. Troubleshoots and resolves issues with the network. Responsible for staying abreast of current and emerging industry trends and use that information to make recommendations. Add value to the company decision-making process by providing subject-matter expertise.


  • Design, install, and configure network systems in support of business and critical operations.
  • Provide ongoing support, automation, and maintenance of network infrastructure.
  • Support various network/data communication protocols, including internal/external routing protocols.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain strategies and new functionality that ensure the performance, reliability, security, and resiliency of the network.
  • Identify, diagnose, and resolve moderately complex to complex issues affecting the network. Address issues escalated from IT Technicians.
  • Monitor the network environment, traffic, and logs; address issues related to capacity, stability, and agility to satisfy organizational objectives.
  • Ensure that network systems are configured and operating according to policy and best practice standards.
  • Work with vendors and service providers to provision and maintain/manage network services.
  • Create and maintain documentation as it relates to network systems.
  • Make recommendations to modernize and improve systems. Evaluate and deploy new systems and upgrades.
  • Conduct regular health checks of all network systems and implement configuration changes accordingly.
  • Perform other related duties as requested by supervisor.


Must have several years of experience working in a network engineer role at an enterprise level. Requires expert applied knowledge of network devices and protocols, operating systems, and network systems/appliances; including but not limited to Cisco, FortiNet, Meraki, Linux/Windows, routers, switches, firewalls, DNS, VPN, OSPF, BGP, STP, CIDR, NAT, TCP/IP, etc. Direct experience using Cisco (routers and switches), FortiNet, and Silver Peak is highly preferred. Strong independent worker. Strong organization and time management, problem solving, troubleshooting, and communication skills are required. Must be comfortable writing technical documentation. Must be able to work well under stress.
