Job description

As the North American Engineering Manager you will be responsible for leading and developing the engineering team, directing daily engineering activities, managing and maintaining a long-term capital expenditure vision, scoping, justifying, and implementing capital and operational projects, and upgrading processes through the effective deployment of CAPEX to continuously improve the sites. This position will work collaboratively with Site Production Managers, Operations Leadership, the Commercial Team, Maintenance and Mechanical Integrity Managers, Research and Development Leads, and professionals in Process Safety. Area of responsibility is North America including sites at Mulberry, Florida; Vanceboro, North Carolina; Convent, Louisiana; and Soda Springs, Idaho.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with Site Managers, Research and Development, and Commercial Leaders to develop and maintain a CAPEX strategy for Business Growth and continuous improvement in Mechanical Integrity and Process Safety.
  • Provide engineering management, supporting plants in Florida, North Carolina, Idaho, and Louisiana - This position has 3 direct reports - Process Engineer, Project Engineer, and a Designer.
  • Lead and mentor direct reports in Process and Project Engineering.
  • Collaborate with Operations Leadership in setting priority, developing scope, justifying, and implementing capital and operational projects.
  • Develop and maintain contractor and vendor relationships and contracts, to maximize productivity and project output, while balancing cost at all North American locations.
  • Provide engineering resources to the plant to assist in troubleshooting operational issues.
  • Direct engineering resources to increase OEE, improve quality, and implement cost savings ideas for continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with other professionals to upgrade and improve process controls.
  • Collaborate with business leaders in our new product introduction process to evaluate and assist in prioritizing growth opportunities.
  • Collaborate with Research and Development and Operations Leadership to conduct plant trials and scale-ups on new product opportunities.
  • Lead the integration of intercompany corporate directives and engineering standards.
  • Collaborate with other professionals to prioritize and implement the corporate occupational safety program.
  • Collaborate with other professionals to develop and implement a PSM program including Process Safety Information, Process Hazard Analysis, Pre-Startup Safety Review, Mechanical Integrity, Management of Change, Incident Investigation, and Compliance Audits.
  • Responsible for employee relations including hiring, time management, employee development, corrective action, performance reviews, and succession planning.
  • Establishes, maintains, and promotes a positive work environment that engenders positive energy, creativity, and teamwork among employees.
  • Develop and manage project implementation schedules to ensure that they meet or exceed company and customer expectations, while maximizing the utilization of plant equipment and personnel across the North American plant network.
  • Develop, track, improve, and report on Key Performance Indicators to measure performance in key initiatives in safety, capital expenditure, and operational excellence improvements in process control and safety.
  • Collaborate with other professionals in developing and implementing a Mechanical Integrity Program in accordance with OSHA PSM, Arkema standards and generally accepted good engineering practices - Tank, critical pipelines, over pressure devices, civil and structural inspections, and corrective actions.
  • Other duties, as assigned.
  • Domestic travel, up to 25%.


Education/Experience Requirements:


  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering required, Chemical Engineering preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in process manufacturing (chemical preferred) and 3+ years of experience managing people, required.
