Your Opportunity:
Job Summary
The Underwriting Analyst will be responsible for the timely processing of merchant applications within Stax's underwriting guidelines and association/network requirements. The candidate will need to be able to adequately handle escalations and or complex discussions with partners and/or 3rd party vendors. The skill set of the individual will need to include the ability to underwrite high risk and complex deals. A successful candidate will have organizational and analytical skills with the ability to manage projects and complete tasks in a timely manner.
Key Responsibilities & Objectives
- Organize for action: Work with the sales organization on obtaining and assembling the necessary underwriting documentation needed for quick decision-making.
- Partner and support: Limit endless amounts of back-and-forth communication with prospects or client's endless iterations by developing a "one client touch" approach.
- Deep analysis: Follow defined procedures to conduct moderate to complex risk analysis (with exposure to highly detailed business credit decisioning) while developing a broader risk portfolio of understanding within your team.
- Support team development: Assist in onboarding, training, and mentoring new underwriting team members in both the ecommerce (CNP) and card present (retail or terminal based) decisioning.
- Source and solve problems: Help identify operational or procedural gaps and provide recommendations for improvement.
- Attend to details: Process and analyze documents with a keen eye for Know Your Customer (KYC) and process management. What you'll bring to the team
- Tools/platform experience: Sourcing and using relevant third-party industry risk management tools such as FraudNet, Giact, Plaid, etc.
- Financial know-how: Reading and reviewing financial statements, being able to interpret balance sheets and forecasts for internal and external stakeholders.
- Expertise in the fine print: Knowledge of United States treasury rules related to AML, KYC, and OFAC / sanctions screening, NACHA rules, and underwriting qualifications for ACH transactions.
- Payment's familiarity: Basic understanding of PCI DSS and card brand rules (VISA, MasterCard, and AMEX), along with relevant processor and sponsor bank exposure.
- Integrity: Ability to work in a highly regulated industry; with strict adherence to customer privacy, regulatory requirements, and the highest ethical standards.
- Communication: Able to adapt to your audience to convey complex ideas in a clear way.
- Ownership: Naturally curious and driven to own the many responsibilities of an underwriter.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent experience and a minimum of 2 years in underwriting for an acquirer or issuing bank, or 5+ years' experience in the credit card processing industry. Associates or Bachelors degree a plus
- Attention to accuracy and detail in processing information
- Possess professional oral and written communication skills
- Possess strong data entry skills and the ability to navigate among multiple systems
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Strong follow-through skills and ability to resolve issues in a timely manner
- Must have a positive attitude and good customer service skills
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team
- Strong keyboarding and data entry skills alpha and numeric with accuracy
- Competent in Microsoft Office Suite (i.e. Word, Outlook, Excel).
- Familiarity with CICS and GUI systems a plus but not required
- Excellent oral and written communication and reasoning skills
