POSITION PURPOSE:

Responsible for delivering products to customers. Loads and unloads the truck in a safe and timely manner according to UNFI procedures. Minimizes delays and reports problems. Picks up supplies and back-hauls from vendors.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES:

♦ Performs pre and post trip inspections of vehicle utilizing knowledge of safe and effective loading and handling procedures. Reviews paperwork for completeness and accuracy. Checks orders for correct number of boxes, correct addresses, and support documentation.

♦ Completes time cards, enters trip data into on-board computer and completes paper logs if necessary. Complies with FMCSA regulations.

♦ Delivers and unloads products utilizing equipment including tractor trailer, ramps, lift gates, pallet jacks, load bars and other devices which assist delivery. Verifies piece count, leaves the appropriate paperwork and secures the required signatures and store stamps (when applicable) on delivery documents.

♦ Operates vehicle safely within UNFI guidelines minimizing accidents, traffic violations and complaints from the public.

♦ Reports any accident immediately to the Transportation Manager/Department.

♦ Keeps vehicles well maintained, safe, and secure. Reports any defects promptly using DCVR form.

♦ Picks up supplies and back hauls from vendors. Completes related paperwork.

♦ Addresses and resolves customer problems as appropriate.

♦ Attends mandatory drivers meetings, training or administrative sessions as required.

♦ Maintains the Company's professional reputation to customers, the public and company employees. Projects professional image by dressing in company provided clothing.

♦ Assumes other related duties as required or assigned.

PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENTS:

1. Customer orders arrive in quality condition and correspond precisely to customer orders.

2. Professional communication exists with customers and vendors.

3. Driving and loading functions are performed according to Company standards and safety regulations.

4. Delivery schedules are precisely met. Delays are minimized.

5. Vehicles are clean and well maintained.

6. Good communication and coordination exist with area staff, related departments, customers, and vendors. Management is well informed.

QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:

High School Diploma or GED Equivalent.

Valid medical card as prescribed by the Federal Motor Carrier Administration and a valid state specific Commercial Drivers License, Class A.

Ability to pass a written exam and road test.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE:

Basic knowledge of Department of Transportation (DOT) laws and mandates.

Understanding of UNFI's safety standards.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

Prefer minimum of one year verified experience operating a tractor trailer.

Must be 21 years of age.

SKILLS/ABILITIES:

Good written and verbal communication skills

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES AND REQUIREMENTS OF THIS POSITION:

Balancing: May involve walking, standing and/or crouching on narrow, slippery or moving surfaces.

Stooping: Bending downward and forward at the waist. Requires full use of lower extremities and back muscles.

Kneeling: Resting on knee or knees.

Crouching: Bending downward and forward at the leg and spine.

Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.

Standing: For extended time periods. Sitting: For extended time periods.

Walking: Especially for long distances.

Pushing: Using upper body to press against something with steady force.

Pulling: Using upper body to draw, drag, haul or tug objects

Lifting: Use of upper body and back muscles to lift objects Grasping: Using fingers and palm on an object

Talking: Especially where one must frequently convey detailed or important instructions or ideas accurately, loudly or quickly

Average Hearing: Able to hear average or normal conversations and receive ordinary information.

Repetitive Motions: Movements frequently and regularly required using the wrists, hands and fingers.

Fine, Acute Visual Abilities: Fine visual acuity with the ability to inspect closely or to assemble small parts; color vision; depth perception and/or field of vision.

Physical Strength: Medium work; Lifts up to 75 lbs. occasionally and/or up to 40 lbs. frequently and 20 lbs. constantly.
