Join Cardno's Science and Environment Team as a Senior Consultant in either our Tallahassee, FL or Riverview, FL offices to play an essential part in project delivery and client service. Cardno is offering the unique opportunity for a senior leadership role within our highly respected team of ecologists. We are looking for a Senior Consultant to provide technical leadership to our clients and to a team of talented individuals.

Job Description:

Cardno's Natural Resources Southeast Business Unit is seeking a Senior Consultant recognized for technical excellence in southeastern ecology, with a focus on Florida. You will provide technical expertise on assessment, planning, regulatory consultation, environmental permitting and restoration projects, develop client relationships, and support staff in Florida. Cardno is an environmental and natural resource management consultancy providing a broad suite of services in environmental impact assessment, environmental restoration, water resources management, natural resources management, permitting and compliance, and liability management, among other services. Clients trust Cardno to help navigate complex environmental, natural resource, and business challenges because of our creative problem-solving and the successful track record of our multidisciplinary team.

You will provide technical leadership to our clients and our Florida staff of accomplished biologists, ecologists, water resource specialists and engineers on a variety of exciting projects throughout the state and the southeastern U.S.

You will work with management and environmental consulting staff throughout the southeast supporting clients in the power, oil and gas, land management and real estate, legal and insurance, mining, and transportation, among other sectors

Responsibilities include:

  • Oversight of ecological surveys and habitat evaluations, including wetland delineations Strategic planning related to site location, avoidance, consultation, permitting, mitigation, and restoration
  • Regulatory consultation with the USACE, FDEP, Water Management Districts, USFWS, FWC, county, and local agencies, among others)
  • Regulatory permitting (USACE, FDEP, Water Management Districts, USFWS, FWC, county, and local)
  • Oversight of ecological monitoring and reporting
  • Oversight of ecological restoration mitigation
  • Engage new clients to acquire additional work
  • Client account management and development of new business ($500,000+ annually)
  • Mentor ecological staff Technical leadership and innovation


Minimum Qualifications:

  • BS in natural resources related field
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience required
  • At least 8 years' experience with project or client account management
  • Proficient in wetland and waterbody delineation, assessment, and regulatory consultation and permitting, (use of UMAM, recognition as a PWS preferred)
  • Proficient in wetland and waterbody restoration planning and monitoring
  • Proficient in habitat assessments, species-specific presence/absence surveys, USFWS and FWC consultations, and incidental take permitting processes (recognition as an Authorized Gopher Tortoise Agent preferred)
  • Recognition in Florida as an ecological leader within one or more key sectors (e.g., power, oil and gas, transportation, real estate, mining, etc.)
  • Proficiency with management of large projects and develop -300K in new revenue annually
  • Practice or service line leadership


Desired Qualifications:

  • 15+ years of experience
  • Authorized Gopher Tortoise Agent (survey, bucket trapping, live trapping, hand shoveling, mark, transport, and release, burrow excavations using mechanical equipment, burrow scoping).
  • Professional Wetland Scientist (PWS) Wetland delineator with experience defending lines set under USACE and FDEP methodologies
  • Energy sector experience including applicant side representation (FERC, NRC, RUS) NEPA experience (categorical exclusions, environmental assessments, environmental impact statements)
  • Develop biological assessments or biological opinions
  • Develop habitat or resource equivalency analyses
  • Develop habitat conservation plans
