Senior Cost Accountant (Hybrid/Remote)

Responsibilities

• Responsible for overseeing and analyzing cost expenditures and purchases within the organization.
• Reviews existing purchases, records data, recommends new cost efficient and financially feasible cost options, and oversees purchasing costs.
• Assist with monthly, quarterly and annual GL close processes and year-end audit as needed; assist with annual budget process, including development of production cost centers, labor budgets, activity rates and overhead to be used in standard costing
• Manage inventory costing and related activities at multiple locations; analyzing production variances and providing insight into inventory cost fluctuations
• Review invoice approval and coding, including supplier payments
• Assist in accounting participation in physical inventory count activities
• Assists areas like manufacturing and product development with developing costs of production / pricing scenarios for new products.
• Ensures regular reporting is made to senior business management on cost performance vs. budgets and highlight and investigate emerging issues.
• Act as sponsor of 'best practices' dissemination for cost management across the organization.
• Maintain ERP set-up for costing: e.g. cost centers, resources, resource groups, etc.
• Monitor inventory activity and processes to ensure they are consistent applied in the business.
• Work with management to develop strong inventory control culture.
• Review business locations and make suggestions on how to leverage ERP tools to better track and record inventory movement into, within, and out of all facilities.
• Document standard costing systems, inventory management systems, production planning systems, business cost control systems, etc. Develop and maintain a single costing system which can be used across all locations.
• Help perform analysis of capital expenditure requests and test assumptions used for calculation of return on investments for capital spending.
• Perform ad hoc analyses as required.

• BS in Accounting, Finance or a related field required.
• 5 years' experience as a cost accountant.
• Hands-on, practical experience in performing studies of costing related information (time studies, efficiency, etc.).
• Extremely adept manipulating large amounts of data, analyzing data and reaching conclusions and recommendations. Must be very proficient in Microsoft Excel.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to work up and down the organization to gather information, exert influence, and persuasively present information to senior management.
• Ability to thrive in a fast paced, quickly changing environment and demonstrated ability to project manage/multitask.
