Job description

We are looking for a dedicated, personable, and responsible Volunteer Coordinator to take our volunteer program to the next level.

The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for recruiting, coordinating, and directing volunteer services committed to the philosophy, goals, and objectives of the Humane Society of Sarasota County.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all aspects of the volunteer program.
  • Execute a continuing program for recruiting, training, and retaining volunteers.
  • Meet all goals and objectives for the volunteer program as outlined by supervisor.
  • Utilize and maintain volunteer software and database to add/update users and events.
  • Screen volunteer applications and recruit based on the needs of the organization, matching applicant's skills to assignments, while keeping with the mission and goals of HSSC.
  • Work with program managers to assign volunteers to meet program needs appropriate to volunteers' interests and skills.
  • Recruit, coordinate, and facilitate volunteer experiences for corporate, partner, and social groups.
  • Responsible for creating, leading, and maintaining virtual and in-person volunteer orientation seminars.
  • Create, maintain, revise, edit, and disburse volunteer manuals, training manuals, volunteer policies, and information to volunteers regarding any changes.
  • Assist in developing and implementing training programs for volunteers and departments that use volunteers.
  • Utilize all communication options to fill volunteer shifts as needed and in emergency situations, including but not limited to, email, phone calls, social media, and texting.
  • Document and track appropriate volunteer statistical information and other volunteer program records.
  • Plan the annual recognition event for volunteers.
  • Provide continuing guidance and support to volunteers.
  • Maintain inventory of program supplies.
  • Assist with education, fundraising, Summer Camp, Teen Program, and other events as needed.
  • Other duties may be assigned, based on company needs.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • College degree preferred.
  • Management experience in a related field, including supervision of a program and program administration, strongly preferred.
  • Ability or willingness to learn the software used to track volunteers and events.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel, and database management.
  • Organized and detail oriented.
  • Capable of accepting and completing work assignments with minimal supervision in a highly motivated manner.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
  • Emotionally capable of handling high-pressure situations in a professional manner in a demanding environment, while maintaining a cheerful outlook.
  • Professional appearance and presentation.
  • Commitment to treat animals with respect and kindness.
  • Outgoing, comfortable speaking in front of groups, working with animals, lifting, loading, and unloading event supplies, and standing for prolonged periods of time.
  • Must be willing to work nights and weekends several times a year to assist with events or meet other deadlines.
  • Comply with all policies as described in the Humane Society of Sarasota County Employee Handbook and Standard Operating Procedures Manual.

Work Schedule

  • Full Time, 40 hours per week. The schedule for this position includes weekdays, weekends, holidays, and a flexible work schedule.
  • Hours and days are subject to change based on the needs of the volunteer program.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work in an environment around animals, including both cats and dogs.
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying temperatures and climates.
  • Ability to work animals of varying temperament and in noisy conditions.

Job Type: Full-time
