Summary

The Bioinformatics Staff Scientist II performs intermediate and advanced analysis for research projects with minimal guidance from scientificmanagement and faculty. With minimal guidance leads the initial consultation and input for the planning ofexperimental design and analysis. Works collaboratively and with minimal supervision with investigators orscientific staff for analysis and interpretation of data including detailed reports, quality control, datavisualization and assistance with manuscript preparation and grant submissions. Provides development andintegration of analysis pipelines including integration with other shared resources technology platforms. Utilizesopen-sourcetools and develops novel tools and visualization approaches for data analysis and interpretation.Serves as a resource for investigators and staff regarding bioinformatic approaches and tools

The Ideal candidate demonstrates:

  • Experience in bioinformatics support using public and commercial software packages.
  • Collaboration with biologists and biostatisticians to develop and apply novel bioinformatics approacheswithPython, R,RMarkdown,Bioconductor,C, C++, PERL, HTML, JAVA, XML,MATLAB, etc.
  • Familiarity withsequencing technologyand data analysis
  • Familiarity with Linux/high performance computing clusterenvironment .
  • Familiarity withGitandGithubfor version control,andSQL database tools.
  • Ability to collaborate on projects and engage investigators, scientific staff and biostatisticians, and establish and maintain effective collaborative research relationships with others and to contribute to ongoing research projects requiring bioinformatics support and communicate clearly verbally and in writing.
Credentials and qualifications:
  • AMaster'sdegree in Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Computer Science, Math, Physics or Computational Biology AND5years of related experience,
Or
  • A PhD in Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Computer Science, Math, Physics or Computational Biology AND2years of related experience
