Job description

Summary

Responsible for performing, under general supervision, a variety of moderately complex to complex tasks related to posting, reconsiderations, and adjustments of all payment types to the billing and collection system. The position requires excellent communication, customer service, and organizational skills. All tasks must be performed in a timely and accurate manner in accordance with policies, and procedures.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Post charges and demographic information to billing system properly with accuracy
  • Process incoming electronic faxes, split .pdf files and log accessions
  • Scan any paper reports when necessary and log accession
  • Adhere to department policies and procedures
  • Follow decision tree for payor specific rules
  • Apply place of service code when needed
  • Utilize reference tools and apply modifiers appropriately
  • Function in a work queue environment
  • Meet minimum production standard
  • Maintain accuracy standards
  • Contact referring facilities when necessary to obtain missing data
  • Watch for problems on accessions while posting and investigate if needed. Communicate concerns to Team Management.
  • Other responsibilities, as assigned


Knowledge and Skill Requirements

  • Technological proficiency - must be computer technology savvy and proficient in MS Office.

  • Problem solving - identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner, gathers and analyzes information skillfully and maintains confidentiality.
  • Planning/organizing- prioritizes and plans work activities and uses time efficiently.
  • Oral communication- speaks clearly and persuasively.
  • Quality control- demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness and monitors own work to ensure quality.
  • Adaptability- adapts to changes in the work environment, manages competing demands and can deal with frequent change, delays or unexpected events.
  • Knowledge - Maintains and basic knowledge of CPT, ICD-10 coding principles, all applicable laws and regulations including but not limited to HIPAA/Security.
  • Dependability - is consistently at work and on time, follows instructions, responds to management direction, and solicits feedback to improve performance.
  • Safety and security - observes safety and security procedures and uses equipment and materials properly.

Required Education

  • High-school diploma or GED
  • Relevant work experience a plus
  • College degree a plus

EXPERIENCE

  • Prefer minimum of 2 years work experience in a medical insurance environment, preferably with charge posting.
