Work Hours/Shift:

Full Time Nights (4p-4:30a) plus roating weekends

You Will Be Responsible For:
  • Basic computer and keyboarding skills.
  • Ability to learn and use the Laboratory Information Systems.
  • Performs desk duties, fax results, answers phones, reprint labels, calls and reschedule recollects
  • Ability and willingness to work independently as well as in a team environment.
  • Ability to work and willingness to work flexible schedules, including nights, weekends, holidays, etc.
  • Ability and willingness to adapt to change
  • Ability to learn laboratory rules and regulations including: CAP, CLIA and State of Florida.
  • Ability to perform venipuncture and microtainer collection.
  • Ensure specimens are correctly labeled and orders are received.
  • Documents temperatures of equipment, performs preventative maintenance of equipment.
  • Performs Microbiology duties assigned, including Micro specimen processing, slide preparation and staining, culture setups, and handle positive blood cultures.
  • Preparation, specimen requirements and documentation of send outs.
  • Demonstrates commitment to professional and personal growth, i.e. completes all mandatory educational requirements, maintains departmental competencies, completes all assigned policy and procedure reviews, 100 % review of assigned departmental meeting minutes and information, and acts as a preceptor as needed.
  • Performs cross training within the laboratory, and does additional duties as assigned
  • Considers factors related to safety, effectiveness, cost and impact for departmental practice in the delivery of laboratory services
  • Employee demonstrates good time management avoiding casual overtime and adheres to hospital policy regarding to break and lunch periods.

Qualifications
What You Will Need:
  • High School Graduate or Equivalent
  • Basic Phlebotomy or Student enrolled in a science related field of study.
  • BLS required
  • Preferred: Two years of hospital based phlebotomy experience
  • Preferred: Cerner experience
Job Summary:

The Laboratory Assistant is responsible for collection of blood samples, through the use of standard venipuncture and microtainer techniques. Prepares samples for Laboratory testing for in house and send out tests. Performs clerical and Client Service functions in the Specimen Processing Area of the Laboratory and throughout the Laboratory as requested.
