Position Summary
The VP of Business Development will be responsible for the developing of Veravas' overall business development strategy based on input from Strategic Marketing, Senior Management Team and Research & Development Team (R&D). As part of the Senior Management Team, the VP of Business Development will identify and assess areas of unrealized revenue potential and actualize the development, successful launch, and integration of innovative initiatives and product offerings into the marketplace while maintaining key relationships with internal and external business partners.
Responsibilities List
• Develop/revise the business development strategy based on input from Strategic Marketing, Senior Management Team, and R&D.
• Lead the identification, assessment, acquisition, and integration of new business opportunities. The scope of this responsibility includes: Assessing potential opportunities from business, strategic, clinical, and technical perspectives; negotiating academic/technology licenses and early, mid, or late stage product development deals; developing commercial/marketing or other partnering alliances; forming and structuring affiliations and new business ventures; and evaluating and implementing acquisitions.
• Manage key relationships with internal and external business partners.
• Establish and develop new business relationships according to the specific goals and desired outcomes defined by the annual performance plan.
• Source and structure licensing and supply agreement deals, coordinating as appropriate with Corporate legal, Finance, R&D, and CEO.
• Personally, conducts negotiations and lead negotiation teams through culmination of negotiations and contracting.
• Lead cross-functional assessment teams through the due diligence process. Communicate the findings of
diligence reviews and resulting decisions to Corporate Senior Management.
• As part of the Senior Management Team, identify potential merger and acquisition opportunities and takes the lead in negotiating and contracting.
• Prepare and deliver presentations of proposed business opportunities to management at all levels.
• Achieve Forecasted Revenue goals and Business Development MBOs as established by Corporate CEO.
• Take the lead to champion the enterprise use and cultural adoption of the selected CRM system.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
Education
Master's Degree in Business Administration, or related field required.
Experience
10 + years' in business development director role within the medical industry required- In Vitro Diagnostic (IVD) industry experience a plus.
Proficient experience with clinical, laboratory services, medical devices, diagnostics or related sciences required.
10+ years of management and team leadership.
Knowledge and Skills
• Experience leading and executing full business development cycle (prospecting through closing, launching and integration into the marketplace).
• Solid experience leading teams.
• Proven strong leadership and sound judgement skills.
• Must have high levels of resourcefulness, influence/business savvy and execution skills (strategy through implementation).
• Established history portfolio growth and meeting/exceeding goals.
• Excellent writing, interpersonal, presentation, and negotiating skills with superior relationship development skills.
• High degree of business acumen, including strong financial acumen.
• Ability to use complex data analytics to identify business opportunities to maximize profitable revenues.
• Solid top-level business management and facilitation skills.
• Highly effective analytical and strategic/innovative thinking capabilities, with a demonstrated ability to identify, assess and integrate new business opportunities.
• Fully competent in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and CRM systems. Able to learn new technology systems quickly.
• Highly organized, excellent attention to detail, time management and process management skills.
• Ability to interface effectively with all levels in the organization, and excel in a team-oriented environment.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment with the ability to quickly prioritize and effectively delegate tasks.
• Must be a self-starter, self-motivated with a drive for results and the ability to wear multiple hats.
• Ability to work additional hours outside the normal workday (i.e. evenings and weekends) to be able to meet deadlines.
• Ability to perform successfully under pressure with the ability to consistently manage numerous high priority projects at the same time.
Travel Requirements
This position may require overnight travel with traveling up to 30% of the time (including face to face meetings with clients, vendors and conferences).
