Work Hours/Shift:

FT/Days

  • Lead the Employees - Has a working knowledge of performance expectations for assigned micro team.
    • Monitors performance of the staff and report's findings to the Support Staff Coordinator and takes corrective action for improvement as appropriate.
    • Uses independent judgment to make recommendations to Support Staff Coordinator regarding:
      • Applicant selection for interview and input into the hiring process after actively participating in the interview process.
      • Perform evaluations/validation of supervised employees.
      • Recommends promotion of supervised employees, recommends bonuses and awarding of other discretionary rewards to supervised employees.
      • The adjustment/resolution of complaints, concerns, and problems of supervised employees regarding work assignments, hours of work overtime scheduling, and other work-related matters.
  • Leads the employees in a manner which develops the employee to their optimal level of performance.
  • Mentors and coach's employees on a continual basis in order to assure competency in care delivery.
    • Assures diversity of staff is positively fostered in the work environment. Actively involves all groups in shared decision-making where appropriate.
    • Effectively manages conflict and is able to reach a common goal and resolve conflicts.

  • Follows laboratory's procedures for specimen handling and processing.
  • Performs and reports all Laboratory patient testing in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Provides technical oversight to the department during scheduled shifts.
  • Assists in establishing and adheres to laboratory's Quality Control policies and documents all Quality Control activities.
  • Coordinates and ensures accuracy and completeness of department quality assurance activities.
  • Coordinates and ensures maintenance, calibrations, and troubleshooting of department instrumentation and test systems.
  • Assists in establishing and assures corrective action policies are followed whenever test systems operate outside established parameters; assures documentation of specific action taken.
  • Identifies and resolves problems that adversely affect test performance or the correct reporting of test results and corrects problems; also helps resolve clerical, phlebotomy, specimen, billing, and customer service problems.
  • Communicates with nursing floors, physician offices, and other clients with regard to critical and stat test results; problems with specimens and/or orders; properly documents communication.
  • Assists in managing external proficiency testing for department.
  • Orders and maintains necessary supplies/reagents for department.
  • Prepares and maintains department policies and procedures.
  • Ensures quality of department test results by evaluating competency and providing training to department technical staff.
  • Assists in providing appropriate staffing through scheduling work assignments and tasks to maximize productivity and efficiency.
  • Provides department performance assessment to appropriate supervisor for employee appraisals.
  • Determines training and in-servicing needs in the laboratory; provides training as needed.
  • Participation and compliance with Laboratory Quality Assurance program.
  • Successfully participates in external and/or internal proficiency testing.
  • Reviews "Result Review Queue" for accuracy on a daily basis - or as needed.
  • Demonstrates leadership and serves as laboratory representative and liaison.
  • Assures workflow continuity through communication.
  • Maintains regular dialog with Laboratory supervisory / managerial staff concerning quality, safety, and Standards of Behavior issues within the department and the facility.
  • Demonstrates ability to accept and facilitate change.
  • Provides leadership and support to laboratory and other FHW personnel (peers, subordinates, medical staff, and others) in developing and maintaining effective and positive relationships.
  • Demonstrates commitment to all department and corporate compliance policies, watches for potential problems, relays concern to Director/Compliance Officer. Demonstrates commitment to appropriate
  • behavior and is familiar with reporting mechanism.
  • Receives specimens from outside clients, in house deliveries, and pneumatic tube system; checks specimens against order for correctness; records receipt in LIS system; attaches laboratory labels and delivers specimens to appropriate laboratory area.
  • Uses LIS system for collection verification, ordering, canceling, and inquiry functions.
  • Assists in stocking storeroom and work areas with supplies of varying weight and size.
  • Organizes work area and adheres to infection control policies.
  • Creates reports, memos, letters, and other communications as needed.
  • Participates in team interviewing when requested.
  • Other duties as needed.
  • Ability to lead the employees in the delivery of exceptional patient care
  • Must be proficient in the English language

Qualifications

What You Will Need:

  • BS degree in science or medical technology with at least 5 years of clinical laboratory experience in high complexity testing.
  • Meet Federal & Government CLIA requirements as a Technical Supervisor.
  • Current Florida license as a Laboratory Supervisor (all areas preferred).
  • ASCP registration
  • SBB (ASCP) for Blood Bank Supervisor
  • Demonstrate commitment and follows Florida Hospital Waterman's Standard of Behavior.
  • Must complete annual competency assessment as required by the College of American Pathologist (GEN. 55500)

Job Summary:

Provides information for diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease by conducting medical laboratory tests, procedures, and analyses. Monitors workflow and evaluates compliance with service guarantees. Provides daily technical supervision.
