POSITION PURPOSE This position provides professional legal support by assisting supervising attorneys with a wide range of tasks in defending the company in General Liability, Products Liability, and Auto Liability claims or litigation. Specialists may engage in pre-suit resolution or they may engage in active litigation through assisting the company and outside counsel on litigation matters. MAJOR TASKS, RESPONSIBILITIES AND KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES : 25% Assist internal leaders and external counsel in pre-suit claims or litigation handling. 25% Engage with customers and their legal representation. 20% General file/database management - maintain complete and accurate electronic and paper files for all assigned matters. 10% Gather relevant documents for contract negotiation/drafting, litigation responses, regulatory filings. 10% Negotiate settlement of smaller matters (e.g., small-claims litigation, low regulatory fines) or negotiate smaller contracts/ amendments/statements of work. 10% Other tasks as assigned by supervisor. NATURE AND SCOPE : Position reports to Associate General Counsel, Assistant General Counsel, Director of Claims, Senior Corporate Counsel, or Corporate Counsel. No direct reports. ENVIRONMENTAL JOB REQUIREMENTS Environment: Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable. Travel: Typically requires overnight travel less than 10% of the time. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS : Must be eighteen years of age or older. Must be legally permitted to work in the United States. Education Required: The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a associate's degree program or equivalent degree in a field of study related to the job. Years of Relevant Work Experience: 2 years Physical Requirements: Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles. Preferred Qualifications: Bachelors degree or Paralegal certificate . 3-5 yrs experience as a paralegal in a law firm or corporate legal department. Ability to work under pressure and prioritize tasks. Ability to effectively manage outside counsel . Analytical skills . High level of basic computer skills (MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Access, Advanced web browsing skills).
