JOB DESCRIPTION: Responsible for supervisory oversight of sites such as, but not limited to, Emory Healthcare affiliate specimen collection locations located within the hospital entities and throughout the metro Atlanta area, hospital Phlebotomy, Specimen Processing triaging area for specimens collected throughout the Emory Healthcare system, or Courier Logistics required for specimen transport. Upholds the values of the organization including providing and demonstrating exemplary customer service skills throughout the preanalytical, analytical and post analytical processes. Reporting directly to either a Department Supervisor or Manager, the Site Supervisor is considered a working supervisor with the expectation to be familiar with all processes, procedures and programs allowing them to fill-in and assist staff as necessary to ensure smooth operation. Supervises direct reports, monitors staff attendance as timekeeper and manages employee performance. Assigns and prioritizes workload. Provides on-going performance feedback including mid-year and annual evaluations. Works with leader on personnel-related issues and participates in discussions regarding disciplinary actions. Actively participates in hiring process and decision making. Orients and trains employees, verifies competency and identifies ways to develop skills. Operationally and actively manages assigned areas including active participation in discussions and decision making for departmental process improvement projects. May initiate, facilitate or otherwise participate in quality improvement projects including gathering data and preparing reports or posters. Monitors and ensures adequate inventory supply at all sites. May be responsible for ordering. Responsible to troubleshoot and report the outcome of departmental process issues as needed assigning immediate tasks to directly reporting employees and following up for prompt outcomes. For 24/7 operating departments, responsible for problem resolution while away from work. May assist in writing, reviewing and revising departmental policies, procedures, and related forms in accordance with local, state, federal, and regulatory guidelines while holding staff accountable. May serve on laboratory's safety committee. Monitors staff during safety compliance audits or drills. May be responsible for section's data base files and/or assist in software testing. May serve as access coordinator for the department. May teach medical technology theory and techniques. Communicates effectively with direct leadership regarding their calendar and planned activities which may include travel around in the metro Atlanta area for routinely scheduled site visits meeting with Clinic Leadership ensuring smooth operation with site visit reports produced. Builds relationships within the Lab organization and throughout EHC by scheduling regular meetings with influencers and clients, participating in meetings and taskforces and otherwise engaging as required. Elevates issues to their leadership as required. Attends educational in-services as appropriate, including leadership classes provided by the organization. Maintains certification as required. Works with leader to formulate plan for professional development. Participates in professional activities and organizations to maintain knowledge of current trends, practices, and developments. May perform venipuncture to obtain blood specimen. Perform other related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science or Medical Technology, or a chemical, physical or biological science. Other bachelor's degree will be accepted if graduated from an accredited school and science and math coursework meet requirements of certifying agency. Bachelor's degree may be waived for a medical technologist who was ASCP certified in the years prior to the bachelor's degree requirement by ASCP and a HEW/HHS technologist certified by Health and Human Services. Certified by one of the following accreditation agencies: MT (ASCP), MLS (ASCP), MT (AMT), MT (HHS or HEW), MT (AAB), generalist or categorical if applicable. Three (3) years medical technology experience required. Supervisory experience preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS (Medium): 20-50 lbs; 0-33% of the work day (occasionally); 11-25 lbs, 34-66% of the workday (frequently); 01-10 lbs, 67-100% of the workday (constantly); Lifting 50 lbs max; Carrying of objects up to 25 lbs; Occasional to frequent standing & walking, Occasional sitting, Close eye work (computers, typing, reading, writing), Physical demands may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.

Environmental exposures include, but are not limited to: Blood-borne pathogen exposure Bio-hazardous waste Chemicals/gases/fumes/vapors Communicable diseases Electrical shock, Floor Surfaces, Hot/Cold Temperatures, Indoor/Outdoor conditions, Latex, Lighting, Patient care/handling injuries, Radiation, Shift work, Travel may be required. Use of personal protective equipment, including respirators, environmental conditions may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.
