Georgia-Pacific is searching for a Director of Product and Process Development, a new role that will apply our technology and creative resources to our customers' business objectives to develop and implement sustainable packaging solutions within the E-Commerce segment. Many of our customers are increasingly concerned about their usage of single-use plastic packaging and are seeking alternative solutions. The selected candidate will work closely with customers and prospects to understand their objectives and needs, and establish the team needed to deliver innovative and sustainable packaging solutions that help our customers reach their goals.
The Director will work closely with a broad variety of functional groups within our customers, including operations, engineering, packaging and sales and marketing. In addition, they will work with cross-functional groups internally, as well as having responsibility to identify and manage external technology partners. The ideal candidate will have a technical aptitude and comfort level in product, manufacturing process and equipment development to successfully deliver high quality and effective products while optimizing total delivered cost.
This position is based in Norcross, GA at our Innovation Institute® and can work remotely when schedules allow. We expect 20 - 30% travel will be required.
What You Will Do In Your Role
Building and leading a high performing team that is responsible for developing a portfolio of new sustainable packaging solutions and the needed manufacturing processes and equipment for our current and prospective customers within E-Commerce
Develop contacts and relationships with targeted customers in order to better understand customer needs and requirements in order to identify, develop and validate the best solutions
Work with internal teams to complete the development of sustainable packaging solutions, including optimizing the product performance, material cost, process reliability and performance of the manufacturing equipment. Develop the processes and systems to successfully scale products to additional manufacturing sites
Work with outside technology suppliers and partners to identify, develop and implement emerging materials and processing technologies and equipment that would enable paper or fiber-based materials to deliver similar functionality for existing polymer-based packaging
Effectively collaborate with cross-functional internal teams, including product development, operations, sales, commercial leadership, and other internal capability teams
The Experience You Will Bring
Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree or higher in an engineering or science field
Experience in identifying, developing and commercializing innovations in a packaging, paper, film or hygiene converting or similar industry, ideally spanning over at least 10 years
Experience working with large E-Commerce retailers and/or Fortune 500 Consumer Packaged Goods either as an employee, supplier or consultant
Experience developing and maintaining intellectual property portfolios including patents and technology licenses
Five (5) or more years' supervisor experience to include developing and retaining talent within an organization
Able to travel up to 30% of the time
