Primary Position Function/Summary:The position supports the promotion, expansion, and implementation of University of Illinois Extension 4-H Youth Development Programs with a focus on school-based
programs and clubs designed to attract new audiences, including Latino 4-H.

(Specialty Factor) Demonstrated experience and/or coursework in volunteer management, working with youth audiences, and/or developing youth
programming.

  • Plans and coordinates in-school and after-school educational programs and 4-H Clubs to meet the needs of schools, students and families, and structured to attract new
    and diverse audiences.
  • Gathers information from schools, parents, volunteers, community organizations, and the Extension Advisory Council to identify needs, establish priorities, ensure diversity,
    and facilitate programming.
  • Networks and collaborates with designated community organizations, leaders and groups to assess the culturally-specific needs of Hispanic/Latino and other underserved
    populations, and plans integrated learning opportunities to meet those needs.
  • Serves as a school liaison, marketing Extension program opportunities relevant to schools, students and families.
  • Disseminates educational information provided by Extension professionals, provides translation of educational and promotional materials, and assigns learning standards to materials if required.
  • Develops and delivers career exploration opportunities for area youth in collaboration with Unit 4-H and CED Educators, Extension Specialists and local community
    organizations.
  • Conducts program evaluations and makes recommendations for improvement or discontinuation.
    Records data, maintains administrative records, and reports on program outcomes as directed.
  • Provides leadership to 4-H families and volunteers. Maintains contact with families, volunteers and key stakeholders on a regular basis through meetings and a variety of
    communication mediums.
  • Implements standard operating procedures to ensure the safety and welfare of volunteers & participants.
  • Attends meetings and actively contributes to unit and program team projects, goals and strategic plans.
  • Recruits, screens and selects adult 4-H volunteers.
  • Orients volunteers to the philosophy of the 4-H programs, risk management, policies, procedures, and materials.
  • Nurtures confidence in volunteer leadership by providing peer mentors, shadowing opportunities, cultural adaptations, activity assistance and succession planning.
  • Coordinates volunteer trainings related to program offerings and continuing educational opportunities.
    Supports and communicates regularly with volunteers. Resolves conflicts as required.
    Recognizes volunteers for service and communicates value in the community.
  • Participates in professional development opportunities.
  • Attends staff meetings and in-service trainings, and provides updates on accomplishments and activities.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • High school graduation or GED
  • Any one or any combination that equals four (4) years/ 48 months of responsible volunteer or professional work experience in coordinating educational and/or community programs or activities

  • • Volunteer/work experience coordinating educational and/or community programs or activities

    • College coursework in any field of study

    • 60 semester hours equals two (2) years (24 months)

    • 90 semester hours equals three (3) years (36 months)

    • 120 semester hours or more equals four (4) years (48 months)

    This Extension Program Coordinator position is a 100%-time, benefits-eligible Civil Service position. The work schedule to be determined. The minimum salary is $19.48 per hour.
