ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW
One of the largest and longest-operating food pantries in Chicago, Lakeview Pantry's vision is to be a stable and trusted resource for low-income residents in our communities. Our approach focuses on both meeting the immediate hunger needs of our clients and working on longer-term solutions to address the root causes of hunger.
We do this through emergency food assistance and social service programming for our neighbors throughout the city at multiple physical sites, as well as through an Online Market and Home Delivery Program.
Lakeview Pantry serves nearly 200,000 individuals a year with 4 million meals through our programs, in addition to partnerships with other community organizations. This year, more than 3,000 low-income neighbors will also receive case management and social services.
SCOPE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Human Resources Manager will drive the development and day-to-day execution of the HR function while working with the leadership team to set agency-wide HR strategies. The Human Resources Manager will lead initiatives to support a staff-engaged, high-performing culture that emphasizes respect, inclusion, collaboration, agility and accountability. This position will lead and execute the functional areas of HR including recruitment and retention, onboarding/offboarding, staff development and engagement, labor law compliance, and employee relations.
Lakeview Pantry is currently operating on a $5.6M budget and a staff of close to 50 employees. The HR Manager will play a hands-on role ensuring that LVP has the culture and HR philosophy and systems to achieve its mission. In supporting the growing organization, the HR Manager must be both tactical and strategic, weighing in on the human resources priorities of our current strategic growth plan.
In addition, as the first full time HR employee, the HR Manager will be responsible for managing the transition of bringing HR functions in-house while supporting the Director of Finance and Administration with outsourced benefits administration.
Lakeview Pantry has grown considerably in the past several years and the HR Manager will support the leadership team in evaluating the effectiveness and long-term fit of the existing HR systems and processes against its strategic plan and future growth goals. RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
1.Collaborating with the leadership team, maintain a highly engaged culture, fostering an environment of respect, inclusion, equity, collaboration, and accountability.
2.Support CEO with information, analysis and recommendations to the organization's strategic direction by identifying and researching current human resource trends.
3.Manage the recruitment and selection process to attract and retain diverse talent.
4.Support the Pantry's goals of building a diverse and inclusive workplace.
5.Implement the onboarding process including new hire orientation and creation of electronic employee files, administering the employee handbook and ensuring all necessary paperwork is properly completed.
6.Manage the offboarding process including conducting exit interviews and reporting trends to leadership.
7.Manage and ensure accuracy of data in HRIS system (BambooHR) including electronic personnel and applicant files.
8.Manage annual performance management cycle including new hire 90-day reviews, mid-year reviews, peer feedback and fiscal year end reviews. Work with the CEO and board of directors on succession plans.
9.Establish and maintain HR policies including updating the employee handbook while ensuring compliance with federal, state and local labor laws.
10.Oversee employee relations while providing guidance to management in resolving employee issues. Identify and consult with employment attorney on matters of legal importance.
11.Collaborate with the Director of Finance and Administration on payroll and employee benefits administration, including annual benefits review.
12.In collaboration with the CEO and Director of Finance and Administration, manage LVP's compensation philosophy and program.
13.Champion organizational learning through identifying needs and developing training and materials that encourage skill acquisition, employee growth, and career opportunities.
14.Work with LVP's existing Culture Club to create opportunities to further the Pantry culture.
TOP CANDIDATES WILL HAVE:
1.Bachelor's degree, preferably in human resources or business
2.SHRM or PHR certification a plus
3.5+ years progressive experience in an HR discipline with a strategic focus
4.Working knowledge of Google Suite and HRIS systems
5.Strong technical HR knowledge (e.g. compensation, employment laws, FLSA, FMLA, employee relations, staffing and selection, performance management, talent and organizational development)
6.Must be a proven relationship builder with sound conflict resolution and interpersonal skills
7.Demonstrated track record of developing effective relationships across all levels of an organization and with diverse groups
8.Can communicate clearly and respectfully (both verbally and in writing) with an adaptive, collaborative and positive mindset
9.Ability to coach and counsel managers at all levels
10.Results-driven, solutions-oriented, growth-minded and comfortable in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities
11.Ability to bounce between strategic and tactical thinking and responsibilities
12.An understanding of, and belief in, the importance of food security for everyone
