Job description

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Sustaining Engineering Manager, the Sustaining Project Engineer II will participate in design improvement projects to existing G&W Electric's products.

Position Responsibilities

  • Lead the technical side of the project from the idea to the completion of the validation tests.

  • Design components for Medium Voltage switchgear per specification.

  • Interface with purchasing and vendors in the selection and approval of component parts and assemblies.

  • Construct and test prototype components or assemblies as required in the change management, validation, and approval processes.

  • Prepare written documentation of processes, material requirements, test results, and project activity as required.

  • Provide Engineering support to Sales/Marketing and Manufacturing on new and existing products and processes.

  • Develop schedules, coordinate and manage projects of minor to major size with little to no supervision.

  • Give Direction to lower-level technical personnel such as Project engineers I, CAD Designers, CAD Operators, and Technicians.

  • Consult with Customer representatives to discuss product requirements and specifications when design or manufacturing problems are involved.

  • Prepare budget and resource information regarding projects or parts of projects in the area of responsibility.

  • May perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering

  • 3 - 5 year’s progressive experience in Engineering design and/or development.

  • Work on highly technical and involved projects constantly challenged with new problems without supervision.

  • Some experience with Project Management and Team Management.

  • Root-cause analysis and computer analysis programs (FEA, kinematic & dynamic analysis).

  • Able to create innovative designs.

  • Able to use small hand and power tools.

  • Some experience with PRO-E or other 3-D CAD systems.

  • Good understanding of statics and material properties.

  • Ability to effectively communicate

  • Able to read and interpret technical standards

  • Able to write technical documents, like test reports, engineering standards, and technical papers with some supervision.

  • Wide degree of creativity.

  • High degree of initiative to finish tasks on time.

  • Drive to learn new methodologies.

Preferred:

  • 3 - 5 years of progressive experience in Engineering design and/or development.

Physical Demands / Working Conditions:

  • General Office Environment, PC use.
  • Light Lifting (occasional 25 lbs or less).
  • Stooping.
  • Standing.
