Our growing furniture manufacturing firm is seeking a Woodworker in Chicago, IL. This position will provide the successful candidate with the chance to apply their knowledge, learn new skills and work as a team within a clean and safe environment. The ideal candidate for this role has experience in the wood products manufacturing sector, is good with his/her hands, pays strong attention to detail and is committed to workplace safety.

Description:

We are seeking a hard-working, motivated, and energetic individual to join our growing team as a Woodworker . The selected individual will be responsible for the assembly of wood components for multiple seating products using staples and adhesives, sanding and joinery techniques, laminating and veneer work, and other wood product manufacturing activities.

This position involves repetitive motions including standing, bending, stretching, twisting, and lifting.

Status: Full Time

Shift: 6 a.m. - 2:30p.m.

Relevant Work Experience: 1+ years in a wood products manufacturing environment. DO NOT APPLY if you have never worked with wood products before.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Construct wood components with minimal supervision

2. Measure parts to verify accuracy

3. Determine sequence of operations required to assemble item

4. Review drawings and sketches of parts to determine dimensions and offsets

5. Use knowledge of hardwood, softwood and plywood to determine optimal joinery

6. Build frames from architectural drawings, blueprints, or bills-of-material

7. Perform mechanical tasks including loading and unloading, fixtures and parts

8. Consult with other departments to optimize products

9. Actively participate in continuous improvements

10. Continuously review work orders to organize daily work

11. Meet or exceed quote times

Qualifications:

  • Ability to use a variety of electric and pneumatic tools (Routers, saws, sanders, planers etc.)
  • Read and understand blueprints, sketches and understand and use a variety of measuring equipment (tape, calipers, etc.)
  • Good math skills (including print conversion and geometry)
  • Understand a variety of raw materials (Hardwood, plywood, MDF, laminate, etc.)
  • Good communication skills including the ability to receive and give oral and written instruction
  • Organizational skills to optimize output by planning and scheduling time and work
  • Ability to interface with internal customers, management, and other employees
  • Ability to use a computer to access blueprints and CAD drawings
  • Able to lift 50 pounds minimum unassisted
  • Able to stand 8 hours per day
  • Work well under pressure
