TITLE: Teacher Aide-Paraprofessional CLASSIFICATION: Non-Certified

FLSA: Non-Exempt DEPARTMENT: School

SALARY: Union Local 1220 WORK YEAR: 180 Days

REPORTS TO: School Principal (Certified Teacher)

JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Summary: Under the general direction of the Principal/ Certified Teacher, the Teacher Assistant will assist the teacher in performing instructional and non-instructional duties, and translates for children who are monolingual in Spanish.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

* Illinois Paraprofessional License Required
* High School diploma or equivalent;
* Any combination equivalent to: an associate's degree, sixty (60) semester hours
* One-year experience working with children
* Bilingual preferred (Spanish)

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (Essential Job Functions)

1. Regular attendance to perform assigned duties

2. Assist teacher in educational instruction

3. Provide instructional reinforcement individually or in small groups

4. Help prepare materials for instruction

5. Help assess student progress by observing performance and recording data

6. Set up equipment for instructional purposes

7. Assist in computer laboratories

8. Assist with special project; prepare exhibits

9. Check homework, grade papers, compile portfolios, record grades

10. Supervise students in the cafeteria, schoolyards, hallways and on fieldtrips

11. Perform exercise or play games to help physical and social development

12. Assist students with lavatory usage or clothing routines

13. Attend workshops, conferences, and meetings

14. Perform other duties as assigned
