Kelly Government Solutions is hiring for a chemical engineer on a government contract with our customer in Lemont, IL. This assignment should last approximately one year and could be extended.
Job Description:
Our customer is engaged in several projects which require chemical engineer support and is seeking temporary help to support its lab research activities.

This requisition seeks an individual who will carry out the following support tasks:
- Plan and conduct experiments in the lab with the aim to develop new industrial uses for biodegradable polymers (e.g films).
- Synthesize and produce new biopolymers.
- Conduct analyses of polymers samples by using one or more of the analytical equipment: thermal (DSC, TGA), mechanical (Instron), or optical (FTIR-ATR, UV-Vis, fluorescence, TEM/SEM, DLS) characterization of materials; melt compounding, thin film extrusion, and injection molding of polymers and the use of analytical chemical techniques such as ICP, HPLC, GC.
- Operate manual and automatic lab instruments and equipment.
- Conduct techno-economic analysis and design of processes and plants.
- Manage lab activities, including the analysis of health and safety hazards, the preparation of suitable health and safety plans, and the maintenance of a neat, clean and organized environment in the lab.
- Manage sample collection, archives, and analytical data files.
- Considerable skills in oral, written and presentation communications.
- Bachelor's Degree and three to five (3-5) years work experience or Ph.D and 1-2 years' work experience.
- The ideal candidate will have a BS in Chemical Engineering or a related field.
- Experience in the formulation and production of (bio)polymers polymers (e.g. films), analysis and testing polymers samples using analytical equipment.
- The ideal candidate has experience in techno-economic analysis and modelling of processes, and is proficient with Excel and Matlab, and process simulation software (Aspen or ChemCAD).
- Polymer chemistry and polymer synthesis should be part of the candidate's resume.
- This position also requires a produced paper at national or international conferences, report, or publication describing results of development work, analyses, and investigations, in academic or professional setting.
- Experience in assessing health and safety hazards and controls as well as QA/QC, and in writing Environmental Health and Safety plans for research projects.
- Work will be performed in lab and office.
- Candidate must have a valid driver's license.
