ROLE PURPOSE:

The Global Category Manager Energy & Commodity Risk Management will work under the direction of the Vice President or Director, Global Procurement with senior level internal stakeholders to negotiate and execute electrical power and natural gas contracts across Tate & Lyle's global footprint (North America, EMEA, Latin America and Asia) in an effort to create a low-cost and reliable energy portfolio. The Global Category Manager will identify key market conditions, regulations, and market structures to help evaluate potential savings opportunities as well as evaluate potential market related risks. Through excellent leadership and communications skills, the Global Category Manager will ensure that cross functional business opportunities are actively embraced.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Support the development and execution of comprehensive energy and utilities multi-year global strategies
  • Manage, advise and maintain oversight of energy sourcing and strategies in all regions by working with regional procurement sourcing teams and stakeholders
  • Analyse markets, regulations, and trends, including economic and geopolitical influences in markets where Tate & Lyle operates
  • Support global energy forecasting and budget planning and reporting activities
  • Work with key business partners and senior leadership team to gain a clear understanding of the strategic direction and supply requirements and priorities
  • Work collaboratively with operations and finance teams on energy forecasting and financial modelling
  • Develop strategies to capture movement in energy markets to identify cost savings opportunities for new and existing facilities
  • In coordination with internal trade team, execute electrical, natural gas and coal supply contracts that reduce cost, minimize risk and leverage opportunities that benefit Tate & Lyle
  • Create and distribute regularly reports to various functions
  • Provide periodic category updates to leadership team detailing key supplier initiatives, savings to target and category spend & trend analysis
  • Provide regular and appropriate communications to stakeholders to ensure the business has an understanding of industry best practices, trends and category knowledge
  • Lead Energy Risk Management meetings and present strategic sourcing recommendations for approval
  • Present strategies and market trends at periodic business reviews with sales and product teams
  • Identify synergies and develop strategies to capture intra- and cross-regional and opportunities; develop implement risk management strategies
  • Support and advise other global category managers on energy markets, regulation and trends
  • Provide management control of category administrative tasks carried out by Global Shared Services
  • Utilize available sourcing tools and technologies to conduct spend analysis, contract and supplier relationship management and strategic sourcing activities
  • Ensure savings targets and reporting requirements are met in a timely manner
  • Review and reconcile power, natural gas and coal invoices for accuracy and contract compliance
  • Engage with related trade associations and/or industrial groups to obtain views of regulatory and legislative opportunities

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
  • Bachelor's Degree (BA/BS) required- Economics/Finance/Business; MBA preferred
  • 5+ years of experience working in utility/energy industry
  • Thorough understanding of Natural Gas Hedging and Market Fundamentals
  • Solid knowledge of Federal, State and Local government energy regulations
  • Experience managing a spend portfolio of $500M+
  • Experience working across regions in a multi-national organization
  • Ability to support the development and execution of a comprehensive energy procurement strategy
  • Ability to work collaboratively with operations, finance, and regional procurement teams to support the development of strategic energy sourcing opportunities
  • Experience in global energy markets and trading; understanding of energy markets, regulatory policies, and trends
  • Experience with electrical power, natural gas and coal transaction experience in international markets in and outside of the United States
  • Ability to communicate throughout all levels of the organization
  • Strong negotiations skills
  • Knowledge of the strategic sourcing process and practical application to sourcing projects with a history of achieving YOY savings
  • Ability to lead and influence cross-functional teams
  • Strong communication skills, including excellent interpersonal skills
  • Strong analytical and project management skills
  • Proficient in using technology and tools, including SAP and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Take ownership and support/drive Tate & Lyle safety culture
