Job description

The Functional Manager is responsible for allocating Mechanical Engineering staff (Engineers and Technicians) across all development and production support activities to enable success, including the hiring and reduction of staff as necessary. The roles include managing staff career development, monthly analysis of program staffing demands, monitoring individual staff performance to plans and identifying training and staff development needs. These responsibilities are anticipated to be approximately 50% of the Mechanical Engineering Functional Manager activities time. The balance of the ME Functional Manager's time shall be used to support executing development projects, as needed.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities :

  • Ability to conduct engineering test activities.
  • Able and willing to travel to Sonobuoy Systems and government test sites, including at sea testing.
  • Proficient in Mechanical design methodologies and application of Mechanical Engineering theory.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, presentation skills.
  • Must possess excellent problem solving skills.
  • Excellent aptitude for mechanical and electrical drawings and schematics. Ability to summarize test data.
  • Manage staff.
  • Engineering development, proposal support, travel.
Job Requirements:
Requir ed Skills :
  • Ability to obtain a US Government security clearance. Security clearances are granted to U.S. citizens.
  • BS (MS preferred) in Mechanical Engineering or related technical field. Minimum of 5 years experience in Mechanical Engineering or related technical field, providing demonstrable technical expertise and value to programs, commensurate with current grade and role.
  • Minimum of 2 years leadership experience involving responsibility for technical, financial, and/or personnel resources.
Desired Skills:
  • Computer skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Standard Engineering Design tools (Schematics Design, Simulation, Modeling).
  • Instrumentation (Oscilloscope, Logic Analyzer, Power Supplies, Spectrum Analyzer, Signal Generator, etc.).
  • Standard hand tools. Multimeters, microscopes, soldering irons, etc.
  • MATLAB experience is desirable.
  • Experience briefing effectively to all levels of the organization up to senior management.
