Job description

DonLevy Laboratories is an independent, commercial, food testing laboratory dedicated to food safety and committed to quality challenges throughout the supply chain. We perform microbiological and chemistry analyses on environmental, raw material, and finished product samples submitted by food companies industry wide.

**This position requires working our second shift which starts at 1pm and does not have a designated end time. This position also requires working holidays and weekends.**

General Function:

Assist in the microbiology laboratory with sample setup and daily quality control.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:

• Assist with sample preparation by weighing and homogenizing
• Pour, swirl, stack, label, and incubate petri dishes
• Weigh, enrich, and transfer samples for pathogenic microorganism testing
• Record appropriate action and information as required per SOP
• Perform daily quality control functions such as balance verifications and temperature monitoring system verifications
• Assist with pre-operation environmental swabbing for DonLevy Laboratories internal environmental monitoring program
• Operate and maintain laboratory equipment
• Perform routine cleaning/sanitizing/disinfecting throughout the laboratory
• Stock the microbiology laboratory with supplies
• Manage retained-sample storage and disposal
• Follow Good Laboratory Practices (GLP)
• Perform additional duties as required

Minimum Requirements:

High school diploma or GED.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Desirable Traits:

Organizational skills and the ability to "think on your feet". The desire to be a productive team member who exhibits "until the job is done" is essential.

Working Conditions:

Physical effort usually requires considerable walking and standing with some lifting. Some exposure to unpleasant elements. Some element of personal risk due to handling of bacteria, chemicals, steam and heat.
