Who We Are Looking For:
We are looking for a UL Lab Engineer to oversee the development of Atkore's UL testing laboratory, including ordering and setting up lab equipment to achieve third party certifications on our electrical, safety, and infrastructure products. Once the lab is operational, this role will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day lab operations.
What You'll Do:
- Manage Test lab Functions.
- Implement the necessary procedures and work instructions to meet the requirements of product testing/standards.
- Manage testing schedules, coordinating with design & new product development teams from each business unit.
- Perform tests to determine UL, CSA, FM, ASTM, IEC, etc. compliance.
- Collect, analyze, and enter data into test and certification reports, manuscripts, and other documents.
- Assist design & new product development teams in analyzing data to determine reasons for non-compliant results.
- Ability to assist with design recommendations.
What You Bring:
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
- 5-7 years Related Lab experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Proficiency in Engineering Software (Inventor, SolidWorks, AutoCAD).
- Understanding of Product standards and Conformity assessment programs (UL, CSA, NSF, etc.).
- Strong Organizational and communication skills.
- Familiarity with Finite Element Analysis (FEA).
Within 3 Months, You'll:
- Complete your new hire "Immersion" so that you are ready to rock in your new role.
- Have developed relationships with the key stakeholders for this role.
- Have developed the lab layout and testing procedures, purchased all lab equipment, and obtained buy-in across Atkore's various Strategic Business Units (SBU's) as to the testing standards and procedures.
Within 6 Months, You'll:
- Have made the UL lab fully operational and be actively working with stakeholders on UL product testing.
- In events of non-conformance, be able to provide suggestions on product designs to engineers to help pass the tests going forward.
- Be routinely providing reports to SBU's on testing data.
- Be working with UL to get a witness testing program operational.
Within 12 Months, You'll:
- Have operationalized the UL witness testing program and working towards becoming a fully listed UL lab.
- Be part of 'Innovation Teams,' providing insight into product designs prior to testing by using AutoDesk Inventor and other 3D simulation software.
