Overview:
The Legislative Services Agency (LSA) provides members of the Indiana General Assembly with nonpartisan, objective legal support, fiscal analysis, and technology services. Leveraging open-source software, we've developed an integrated set of applications (collectively referred to as INscribe) that is used extensively by lawmakers and their staff. Our team is responsible for maintaining and enhancing the existing applications as well as developing new applications to solve additional business needs. Business System Analysts play a critical role in coordinating with end users and programmers to ensure that new or updated features satisfy underlying business needs.
The ideal candidate for this role will be a creative, passionate, and ambitious self-starter. We are looking for someone who thrives on ideas, and is driven by finding unique and effective solutions to complex problems.
Essential Functions:
- Work closely with end users to learn current business requirements and how their processes leverage current technology.
- Participate in problem solving and brainstorming sessions to explore ways to solve business needs with current technology.
- Assist developers in exploring and testing potential changes to existing applications.
- Update existing training materials and process documentation to be used by legislative and LSA staff.
- Assist in exploring solutions to user issues.
- Work on tickets as they are assigned to them in the workflow management tool (Jira).
- Learn about the INscribe applications and other technology tools used by OTS, serving as the secondary for at least one.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Able to collaborate effectively with software developers, business analysts, web developers and users of the software.
- Strong written, verbal and presentation skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with non-technical end users and coworkers.
- A personal interest in and knowledge of the legislative process is ideal, and the ability to learn these processes is an absolute must.
Desired Skills/Abilities :
- Coursework and/or experience with Human Computer Interaction, Computer Science, Website Design, Business Process Documentation or other technical areas.
- Exposure to the Agile framework.
- Familiarty working with macros.
- Familiarity with the basic principles of software testing.
- Experience working with Microsoft Office tools such as Word, Excel and Outlook.
Physical Requirements :
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time.
- Must have the ability to constantly operate a computer.
- Position requires regular communication with other staff members in regard to IT issues. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
- May be required to work on-call or long hours.
- Must be able to move quickly back and forth between several office locations in a historic building with flexible accessibility standards under the Americans with Disabilities Act Accessibility Guidelines.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $50,000.00 - $60,000.00 per year
