Job description
Inotiv is currently recruiting for Laboratory Animal Technicians for our Evansville, IN location. Technicians perform diversified laboratory procedures and operations in the area assigned.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
- Perform simple laboratory tests, evaluations, and/or functions without constant supervision Use laboratory equipment of varying complexity requiring a moderate degree of operational skill Read and understand a study protocol Perform mathematical calculations involving simple algebraic relationships; operate a calculator Clean and sanitize caging, equipment, animal room, and support areas Maintain laboratory animal colonies and administer test material to animals, record data in laboratory notebooks, data sheets, or by computer entry Assemble laboratory apparatus as required for evaluation or analysis and disassemble and clean apparatus at termination of use Handle and restrain laboratory animals Assist in training of other employees when requested Participate in in-house training programs for the technical staff Maintain confidential information Interact with the community and employees Support and participate in other company initiatives as directed by management Perform other duties as assigned
REQUIREMENTS
High school diploma or equivalent, completion of certification as an Animal Care Technician (only for promotion within), favorable attitude and disposition toward people and animals, supervisor and/or manager recommendation.
Skills and Abilities:
- Demonstrated ability to perform varied technical assignments with limited supervision Complete knowledge of the facility with calculations necessary for making laboratory preparations Skill in handling a variety of laboratory tools and instruments Demonstrated self-starting ability and reliability in completing assignments
TOOLS, EQUIPMENT, & OTHER RESOURCES USED
- Various software applications sustained by a Windows platform. (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.) Autoclaves, sterilizers, electronic scales/balances, clippers, shavers, vented hoods, and other surgical utilities (e.g. stereotaxic frames).

General
- Ability to read, write, speak and understand English Ability to read, write and understand oral and/or written instructions Able to read and interpret animal identifications, dose groups, and color codes
Physical Activity
- This position will require frequent walking, sitting for extended periods of time, carrying, standing, heavy lifting (max. 50 lbs), reaching while standing, gripping and twisting hand movements, finger control and other general repetitive motions. Bend and lift caging, feed bags, etc. up to 50 lbs to a height of 5 ft. Manual dexterity to catch, hold and dose animals Manual dexterity to use a calculator and/or computer
Working Conditions
- Will be exposed to animal dander, bites, scratches, etc, and material associated with animal husbandry
- Able to wear latex gloves, dust musk and/or respirator, and safety glasses as required.
- The noise level is usually moderate to loud requiring ear protection
- Mantoux TB test with negative result is required or a chest X-ray to confirm no active disease
