  • Purpose of Job
    • To produce images of the human body for medical diagnostic purposes.
      Performs diagnostic and Computed Tomography (CT) imaging examinations
      Job Requirements.

    • Education
      • Graduate of an approved American Medical Association (AMA) School of Radiologic Technology required.
    • Experience
      • One year experience in CT or a graduate from an approved CT/MRI program required.
    • License/Certifications
      • American Registry of Radiologic Technologists for Radiography (ARRT) registered in Radiologic Technology required.
      • American Registry of Radiologic Technologists for Radiography (ARRT) registered in Computed Tomography required. Technologists who are Computed Tomography (CT) Board eligible will be considered with the understanding that the registry will be passed within 6 months of hire.
      • Current Radiologic Technologist Permit to Practice from the Iowa Department of Health required.
      • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification required.
      • Must participate in mandatory in services and continuing education as mandated by policies & procedures, external agencies and as directed by supervisors.
    • Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
      • Strong interpersonal skills necessary to effectively communicate and interact with patients and family members as well as hospital personnel and coworkers.
      • Must have analytical skills necessary to computate exposure factors and the ability to perform numerous tasks at once.
      • Required to perform venipuncture for injections and IV management for power injector use.
      • Adept at working with pediatric patients.
      • Strong knowledge in cross sectional anatomy for CT exams and abnormalities of exams is essential.

    • Essential Function Skills

      • Aware of Contrast Reaction protocol, and other contrast related protocols.

      • Performs QC on equipment as needed, aware of how to call for service and communicates problems/errors to proper personnel.
      • Assists with procedures that require sterile technique.
      • Performs medication administration and documents in EMR.
      • Able to verbalize appropriate technique for O2 Tank exchange, tubing/wall connection, & regulator reading.
      • Aware of emergency and evacuation policies on the MHS Intranet.
      • Correctly utilizes the Cerner/RIS system for proper documentation, image matching and billing.
      • Able to find needed supplies for room stocking.
      • Transmits images to appropriate network location (ex PACS, AW, DynaCad, etc.)
      • Demonstrates and practices the principles of "Image Wisely/Image Gently".
      • Ability to perform all CT procedures.
      • Aware of and able to follow all CT imaging protocols.
      • Operates injector equipment for administering contrast.
