Position Overview

The purpose of this role is to provide support to the Human Resources Team for all HR activities at both the Davenport Casting and Finishing facilities including but not limited to employee and labor relations, benefits administration and all other local Human Resources functions. May provide support to other sites as requested by the Sr. Human Resources Manager. This HR professional will also assist in the recruiting and training efforts in addition to providing advice, assistance and follow-up on company policies, procedures, and documentation, and coordinate the resolution of specific policy-related and procedural problems and inquiries.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

Responsibilities Include:

* Be a champion for plant safety and live the Novelis Cultural values. As part of the HR team, provide support to safety programs and social responsibility committee and other activities to support safety and culture improvement.
* Responsible for HR administration for the Davenport facilities such as maintaining HR Poornata system transactions and data integrity, file management, attendance records, vacations, and various employee out-reach programs.
* Assist in developing and implementing effective recruitment strategies and processes for hourly bargaining unit recruitment. Ensure all recruitment compliance activities are followed and appropriately documented (postings, job files, pre-employment screenings, EEO/AAP annual filing, data tracking, etc.)
* Responsible for onboarding processes of all new hires.
* Works in conjunction with Sr. Human Resources Manager to recruit salaried staff openings.
* Administer and explain benefits to employees, by serving as a liaison between employees and insurance carriers as needed. Works as part of the HR team to conduct annual enrollment meetings.
* Work with HR team, department managers, supervisors and employees to resolve employee relations issues and provide advice, assistance and follow-up on company policies, procedures, and documentation. Ensure thorough analysis of issues, documentation of facts, and then formulate sound and compliant recommendations.
* Work closely with the Sr. Human Resources Manager in maintaining a positive labor relations climate for the Davenport sites. Responsible for day to day labor contract administration in areas such as bereavement, leave of absence, seniority, vacation, award programs and posting and awarding job bids, and contractual rate increases. Knowledgeable about collective bargaining agreement pay requirements and practices and works closely with payroll coordinator. Works with the HR team in preparation for arbitrations and negotiations as needed.
* Review and make recommendations to the Sr. Human Resources Manager for any improvements to HR policies, procedures and practices.
* Conducts exit interviews. Compile and analyze statistical reports concerning recruitment and EEO, compensation, headcount, succession planning, and turnover data and advise Sr. Human Resources Manager of areas of concern.
* Assists will management and supervisory development and training activities. Works with Sr. Human Resources Manager with performance management and compensation.
* Conduct training in HR and employment-related subjects.
* Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations. Willingness to complete additional labor relations training as required.

Required Qualifications:

* An bachelor's degree in Business or HR Management with a minimum of five (5) years of Human Resources experience preferably in a manufacturing environment.
* Must be proficient in Microsoft Business Applications software. Previous HRIS administration. Excellent written, verbal, listening and interpersonal skills. Must have ability to learn quickly and work in fast-paced environment. Ability to read and interpret documents and policies such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, company or site policies, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees of the organization. Must be able to travel between the two Davenport plants and on occasion travel to other Novelis sites for company meetings. Must be able to support 24/7 plant operations by working early or late hours to attend and facilitate employee meetings.
* Decision making skills. Must have the ability and confidence to make decisions relating to role's accountabilities. Must exercise discretion when determining if direction from manager is needed. Is accountable for the outcomes of decisions made.
* Analytical Thinking. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Must be able to recognize data needed in order to make decisions, collect that data, and analyze in order to determine direction in which to proceed. If issue is beyond authority level or scope of work, must recommend plan of action to manager in order to proceed.

Preferred Skills:

* Professional in Human Resources (PHR). Experience working as an HR professional in a Union environment. Working knowledge of State and Federal employment laws, employee benefits administration, employee/industrial relations, FMLA compliance, Oracle HRIS, Kronos, Ultipro, and iCIMS.

Location Profile

The finishing mill in Davenport opened in 1906 and employees more than 100 people. The facility cold rolls aluminum to a desired gauge anneals to temper levels coats and slits the rolled sheet to size. The facility produces mill finish coil and painted coil to serve the building and construction industry. Davenport Finishing has an active social responsibility committee that supports many organizations in the local community including Habitat for Humanity Riverbend Food Bank CASI and more. The facility also sponsors local events including their partnership with Junior Achievement in sponsoring and presenting at the Advanced Manufacturing Career Day.
