Job description

The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics Department of Radiology is seeking an Accountant to exercises accounting control over the Department of Radiology, University of Iowa Health Care accounts. Responsible for purchasing, payment approvals, and may assist in annual departmental budgeting.

Duties Include

Provide Specialty Patient Care:

  • Process basic and/or routine financial transactions using appropriate classification based on revenue/expense type and source.
  • Review and approve basic and/or routine financial workflow transactions for correct classification and appropriateness.
  • Monitor and reconcile account statements and reports to verify compliance with conditions specified by the source of funding.
  • Initiate original and correcting financial journal entries.
  • Provide training to support staff on policies and procedures.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and yearly financial activity reports on departmental accounts for review by the Administrator and/or Departmental Head.
  • Extract financial data from established accounting and information systems and perform routine financial analysis or projections to satisfy requests by internal or external individuals. assemble the data for analytical purposes.
  • Open/close accounts within guidelines established by the University and Department of Radiology.
  • Assist in year-end closing and annual budgeting for the department.
  • Initiate financial transactions including Large PO's, travel approvals, reimbursements, and purchases.
  • Maintain oversight of contractual relationships and invoicing with outside entities for peer reviews, teleradiology, etc.
  • Coach and lead faculty support staff and ensures that staffs' duties and responsibilities are met timely and completed appropriately. Additionally, completes staffs' yearly performance reviews and provide guidance, training, and policy updates in a group meeting format.
  • Contribute to the creation and/or modification of processes for successful operation of the department.

Qualifications - External

Education Required

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience Requirements

  • 6 months - 1 year accounting experience.
  • Knowledge of and ability to use the functions, tools, and processed needed to manage financial assets and liabilities for assigned accounts.
  • Knowledge of applicable policies and regulations associated with external funding sources.
  • Ability to process information with a high level for accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proficient in computer software applications: Microsoft Office Suite.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Knowledge of University policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Experience managing external funding sources (e.g., NIH, NSF, private foundations) including grant submission, financial monitoring, and periodic reporting.
  • Demonstrated ability in financial analysis.
  • Knowledge of automated accounting systems: Peoplesoft, StrataJazz (Strata Operating Budget Systems), GL Reporter, and GL General Ledger.
  • Knowledge of UI automated systems: GL Reporter, GL General Ledger, AP-PO Peoplesoft, CAM (Capital Assets Management), E-Pro, GL Journal Entry and ProTrav.
