Job description

The University of Iowa University Billing Office is seeking a Billing Account Services Coordinator.

This position supports the daily operations of the UI Billing Call Center, requiring advanced knowledge and expertise of University Billing and in-house collections management activities. The person in this role will make decisions and exercise a high level of autonomy.

Duties to include:

  • Review and answer questions to the Call Center and explain transactions independently via phone and email.
  • Responsible for resolving complex, escalated phone and email questions related to billing, financial aid disbursement, and collection on a rotational basis. Respond to inquiries, requests and complaints from University staff, students, faculty and the general public regarding issues related to the U-Bill.
  • Monitor departmental e-mail account and routinely review outbound emails. Provide timely feedback to team members, as necessary.
  • Participate in student hiring & training; ensure students remain in compliance with FERPA and the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Coordinate student training documents; ensure instructions are clear and up to date.

Required Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree in an appropriate discipline (Bachelor's degree with a business related major) or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Minimum six months related administrative and program experience;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Ability to apply logic and deductive reasoning to problems with varying levels of complexity;
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications of Word and Excel;
  • Demonstrated ability to provide high level customer service.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Prior work experience in a call center environment;
  • Prior experience with collections or accounts receivables;
  • Experience conducting or assisting with group and/or 1:1 training sessions;
  • Six months functional supervisory experience;
  • Some knowledge of University policies, procedures and regulations.

University Billing is the centralized billing and collection point for student accounts and is a division of Treasury Operations. Treasury Operations has overall responsibility for administering and overseeing University banking, cash management and investment services.
