Corporate Risk
Corporate Risk helps all Wells Fargo businesses identify and manage risk. The team focuses on several key risk types, including conduct, credit, financial crimes, information security, interest rate, liquidity, market, model, operational, regulatory compliance, reputation, strategic, and technology risk. The group provides leadership, enhances communications, assists with problem identification and solutions, and shares best practices. In addition, the group provides an enterprise-wide view of risk, assists management and our Board of Directors in identifying and monitoring risks that may affect multiple lines of business, and takes appropriate action when business activities exceed the risk tolerance of the company.
Global Treasury Management Chief Risk Officer Team
The Chief Risk Officer team has primary accountability for independent oversight of all risk types related to the Global Treasury Management business.
The CRO team provides independent, holistic risk leadership and oversight of the business, creating streamlined interaction with independent risk management and a comprehensive view of risks across all business areas within Global Treasury Management.
The Roles
There are three openings within this posting to align within key areas of the Global Treasury Management business. The Enterprise Risk Directors will report directly to the Global Treasury Management Chief Risk Officer and will leverage their experience and knowledge of risk management, business functions, products, and services to provide independent, holistic risk leadership and oversight of the business. The organizational design of the Chief Risk Officer group will follow a consistent framework, while allowing customization to meet the needs of the business.
These leaders will build a team of risk professionals to ensure Corporate Risk provides senior management with an independent perspective of the level of risk to which the business area is exposed across all risk types. This includes exposure across compliance risk, model risk, other operational risks, reputation risk, and strategic risk - both in aggregate and individually.
The Enterprise Risk Directors will regularly present to senior management within Global Treasury Management on the risk position of the areas for which they are aligned.
Specific responsibilities include:
- Primary independent risk management lead for key areas aligned to the Global Treasury Management business structure.
- Promote a risk culture with focus on first line of defense adherence to the risk management framework and self-identification of issues.
- Provide risk oversight of strategic initiatives and key transformation programs to ensure risks have been identified, assessed, with consideration of mitigating controls.
- Active engagement during regulatory exams, audits and independent testing reviews for their key area of responsibility.
- Provide support for internal events, understanding root cause, providing recommendations for improvement and considering read-across for other areas within the organization.
- Lead thematic reviews as needed to identify and assess control weaknesses within the operating environment.
- Identify and escalate risk and control issues to the Global Treasury Management Chief Risk Officer with transparency, in a timely manner and in accordance with Company policies and procedures.
- Drive the execution of remediation plans to address weaknesses in the control environment.
- Identify and highlight emerging risks.
- Participate in and support governance committees and forums as required.
The Director will have a significant role in review and effective challenge of product management and related governance of new business initiatives, review of existing products, deployment plans, and post-implementation reviews.
The Director will leverage their experience within transaction banking and product governance to provide independent assessment of risks and recommendation of key controls. The leader will partner with the product management and control teams in the development of KRIs/KPIs to ensure effective oversight of existing material risks as well as forward-looking trends to identify emerging risks.
Role #2 - Customer Excellence Risk Director is part of the Corporate Risk organization and will be the primary independent risk management lead for the Customer Excellence shared service organization.
The Customer Excellence organization is comprised of 2,800+ staff providing end-to-end servicing support for Commercial and Corporate Banking clients, treasury management service and implementation, service transformation, complaints, and fraud prevention.
The Director will have a significant role in the review and effective challenge of Customer Excellence activities, initiatives and processes.
The Director will leverage their experience within transaction banking as it relates to risks associated with client servicing and implementation of treasury management products. The leader will provide independent assessment of risks, recommendation of key controls, as well as partner with the business areas to develop KRIs/KPIs to ensure effective oversight of material risks.
Role #3 - GTM Enterprise Risk Oversight Director is part of the Corporate Risk organization and will be the primary independent risk management lead for strategic initiatives being led by or impacting the Global Treasury Management business.
The Director will leverage their experience leading large-scale programs and operating in a business management/COO capability by which to help drive change and ensure key risk programs are being successfully implemented within the business.
The leader will be responsible for preparing reports and presentations for governance committees, regulator updates, etc. to ensure a holistic view of risk is being accurately reflected for senior management.
The Director will deputize for the Global Treasury Management Chief Risk Officer in relevant governance committees and forums as required.

Required Qualifications
- 7+ years of management experience
- 10+ years of experience in risk management (includes compliance, financial crimes, operational risk, audit, legal, credit risk, market risk, IT systems security, business process management) or 10+ years of financial services industry experience, of which 7+ years must include direct experience in risk management
- 10+ years of experience within treasury management, payments, or transaction banking, with an extensive risk background and broad familiarity with regulation risk requirements.
- Expertise in all risk categories including operational, and compliance, with extensive knowledge of laws and regulations from the regulatory agencies.
- Demonstrated success running a balanced business model while driving transformation, continuous improvement, and efficiency, including the ability to manage and prioritize potentially competing objectives to achieve optimal customer, shareholder, and/or team member outcomes.
- Proven communication skills with the ability to influence, develop, partner with, and maintain collaborative relations at all levels within the organization and externally with customers, regulators, partners, and communities.
- Proven experience successfully leading a line of business or corporate function in a business of comparable size, scale, complexity, and regulatory oversight.
- Deep knowledge of the infrastructure needed to support a commercial business, leading-edge risk practices, and required end-to-end processes.
- Strong process management, reengineering skills, and Six Sigma/Lean skills.
- Proven experience building, leading, and engaging high-performing, diverse, and inclusive teams.
- Proven ability to foster constructive relationships with regulatory agencies, peers at other financial institutions, business leaders, and other internal risk management leaders/groups.
- Demonstrated ability to operate independently and effectively build relationships within a matrixed environment to influence outcomes both within line of business and Corporate Risk.
