Kelly Engineering Resources has a great direct hire opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer in the Kansas City Metro. This position will help drive new product development projects and existing product improvements. We are seeking a dynamic individual who possesses the right combination of initiative, knowledge, and communication skills to come be a part of a great company and an even better team. This position will be a vital member of our Research & Development and Engineering team.
The candidate will work directly with a senior mechanical engineer to drive new product development projects of a strategic, disruptive nature in the railroad maintenance-of-way industry. Daily assistance and direction from engineering management and executive leadership can be expected. Our projects move quickly and involve a wide variety of design tasks.
Duties and Responsibilities:

+ The Mechanical Engineer I will work closely with a senior engineer, as well as draftsman/designers, engineers, and project managers to develop mechanical designs and drawings for railroad maintenance of way equipment.
+ Create and design 3D models and 3D assemblies to be used to create prototype projects.
+ Use engineering calculations and other software tools to support designs
+ Assist senior engineer in preparation of structural analysis reports and interface with project managers to develop new railroad maintenance of way equipment.
+ Analyze maintenance of way equipment to determine possible design improvements
+ Provide engineering and manufacturing support on new and/or existing products when issues arise.
+ Lead, participate, assist with engineering initiatives ranging from new capabilities to new products to application solutions through launch and full commercialization
+ Regular and predictable attendance and punctuality are a requirement for this position.
+ Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
+ Bachelor's degree in Engineering discipline required, or equivalent experience.
+ Exposure to 3D modeling; Autodesk Inventor, Vault, and AutoCAD experience is a plus.
+ Finite Element Analysis (FEA) experience is a plus.
+ Exposure to railroad or heavy equipment industries is preferred.
+ Must be motivated individual with strong analytical, problem solving, and root cause analysis skills. Logical, process-oriented thinker.
+ Excellent verbal and written communication required, including presentation of complex data in easily understood ways and strong data visualization skills.
+ A natural curiosity about technology is a bonus.
+ Proficiency using Microsoft Office - Word, PowerPoint, Project, and Excel (including creation of charts, functions, and tables).
