Job Summary:

The HR generalist will have a broad scope of responsibilities, administering payroll and benefits, supporting staffing and training activities, and interacting with employees at all levels. This person will maintain physical and digital files for employees, and ensure accurate bimonthly payrolls, timely changes to employee benefits and other data, and the reliable tracking of attendance.

Knowledge / Experience / Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in HR, business or a related field
  • Five years of experience in HR, preferably in a manufacturing/industrial environment
  • Thorough knowledge of federal and state labor laws and regulations.
  • SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR or SPHR certification a plus
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and conflict resolution skills
  • Strong ethics, with an ability to act with integrity, professionalism and confidentiality.
  • Resourceful and detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
  • Experience using a payroll/HR system. Ability to learn and apply new technology
  • Proficiency in MS Office including Work, Excel and Outlook

Essential Duties and Key Responsibilities

  • Run bi-monthly payrolls, and enter/update employee data, including pay and benefit changes, and tracks attendance
  • Assist employees in payroll and benefit matters and in the sharing of information
  • Collaborate with departmental managers to understand the skills and competencies required for open positions. Assist in the employment process, posting jobs, interviewing hourly applicants, conducting background checks, and participating in onboarding and orientation activities.
  • Review, track and document compliance with mandatory and non-mandatory training
  • Assist in the upkeep of the employee handbook, maintaining compliance with federal and state employment laws and regulations. Provide guidance and interpretation of personnel procedures and policies,
  • Handle employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees and supervisors, referring complex and/or sensitive matters to the appropriate staff.
  • Participate in the reporting on HR objectives and systems, including metrics, queries, and standard reports.
  • Maintain knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes and new technologies in human resources, talent management and employment law
  • Gather data and creates reports, spreadsheets, and training material
  • Participate in reviewing employee feedback and strategizing HR programs to benefit workplace culture
  • Help coordinate employee events and recognition activities
  • Perform other duties as assigned
