Position Overview

Novelis is looking for a Lab Technician.

The technician is responsible for providing timely testing of production material to support Toller taken samples of Plant Manufactured material. This includes daily production testing, product quality control and special investigations. Specifically, this position entails utilizing metal preparation testing equipment to ascertain and report metal characteristics. The role ensures the safe and accurate preparation of Aluminum sheet metal samples and the testing of those samples per the requirements of the testing plan associated to the material and the standard methods used within the laboratory. The Lab Technician ensures the resulting values are correctly logged either via the automation systems or by manual entry depending on the test. Decisions on metal usage are based on the results from the Lab Technician's work, so consistency and stability are critical characteristics to this work.

Responsibilities

* Provide timely, accurate test data as required to support operations. Provide real-time feedback to allow manufacturing adjustments based on sample analysis and mechanical testing results obtained in the Laboratory.
* Provide Laboratory results to Quality Engineers/Product Engineers and other Novelis personnel for further analysis.
* May be required to interact with vendors and maintenance personnel to help troubleshoot and resolve equipment issues.
* Operate sample inventory management, sample preparation, and sample testing equipment.
* Be an active participant in reliability issues related to Laboratory equipment.
* Maintain a close working relationship with PPQ, and Plant Lab personnel.
* Assist in the implementation of training plans, development of training documentation, and training of new Laboratory Technicians.
* Support audits and findings gap closure.
* Address and resolve certification issues.
* Actively support Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) policy, align decisions and actions with the EHS management system, and integrate EHS performance in day to day operations.
* Support the implementation and maintenance of the Lab's Quality System by serving as a resource.
* Engage in continuous improvement activities that will help build a safer and more efficient Laboratory environment.
* Perform other tasks as required by NNA Management.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

Qualifications

* High School Diploma required; college coursework in a related field preferred
* Must work effectively without close supervision.
* Experience in a Lab setting is a plus in order to understand and operate complex Lab equipment.
* Must possess advanced computer skills (Microsoft Office, specifically Excel) to navigate lab software and communicate throughout the organization. Experience with Lab software such as Instron Blue Hill preferred
* Must be capable of lifting up to 25 pounds
* Experience with this lab equipment a plus:

Instron Universal Tensile Testers Bruker Spectrographic XRF testing equipment Conductivity meter Balance Bend tester Various Presses, and Shears Milling machines Precise measuring devices Laboratory heat treat ovens

Location Profile

Novelis' Guthrie facility is located in Guthrie Kentucky approximately 30 minutes from the Tennessee state line near Clarksville Tennessee and Hopkinsville Kentucky. As Novelis' newest facility Guthrie will house a heat treatment and pretreatment line that will serve the North American automotive market and employ 125 residents.
