Job description

While reporting to the Plant Manager, the safety and health of employees takes precedence over all duties of this job. This position is responsible for the entire safety program. Additionally, you will be responsible for office administration functions to include; hiring hourly employees, on-boarding, payroll and a variety of office functions as needed.

What you'll be doing:

  • Provide hands on coordination of the plant safety programs including but not limited to written program management, program audits and plant safety rules.
  • Facilitate plant safety teams and training sessions.
  • Recognized as a safety role model by Leadership Team (Management) and Team Members (hourly personnel).
  • Ensure compliance with all Plant, Division and Corporate safety requirements.
  • Lead the Safety and HR portion for new employee orientation.
  • Ensure that all new employees receive and review required safety training and documentation prior to starting work.
  • Assist supervision with all safety-related issues.
  • Spend significant time on the plant floor completing audits, interacting with the workforce, creating and posting safety awareness materials, updating bulletin boards and performing 5S activities. Expected ratio is 70% on-floor time to 30% office/desk time.
  • Assist in coordinating appointments with company approved physicians for injured employees.
  • Distribute all safety materials including: weekly statistics, safety meeting minutes, steering committee minutes, safety inspections, audit results and all other safety information.
  • Coordinate safety meeting schedules, agendas, materials and activities for all safety meetings.
  • Attend division/corporate safety meetings/conferences (in person or teleconference as required). (Note: Overnight travel will occasionally be required).
  • Oversight of the employment, application, and interviewing process for hourly, plant employees. Schedules drug test and ensures the completion of it. Reviews applicant selection data submitted by interviewing managers for compliance with selection criteria. Maintains accurate and up-to-date recruitment and selection documentation.
  • Communicate promptly to Payroll about any change in personnel status.
  • Conduct employee orientations. Process all other paperwork involved in the hiring process. Follow up and ensure appropriate paperwork is on file.
  • Assist in all employee relations issues; including pre-hiring testing, new hire paperwork.
  • Monitor employee issues such as time cards, attendance, and vacation schedules.
  • Office related administration including personnel files, paperwork, personal leave requests. Answers employee's questions and properly advises them on the correct use of leave. Promptly resolves leave-related issues.


This position is in our Protective Thermosafe Division and is located in Hillview, KY.

  • You have an Associate's degree or equivalent experience. Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Proven record of safety leadership
  • Demonstrate a strong work ethic, with a dedication to employees remaining safe
  • Comfortable in public speaking and training large groups of coworkers
  • Minimum of 2 years of manufacturing experience or equivalent
  • Minimum of 1 year of previous hiring and office experience preferred
  • Ability to successfully complete OSHA 30-hour General Industry Training
  • Previous education and/or training in safety or related field preferred
  • Ability to complete Red Cross 1st Aid & CPR/AED Instructor Qualification and successfully train & qualify Plant Emergency Responder Team
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Powerpoint to include creating charts, graphs, SOP's, One Point Lessons, presentations
  • Ability to complete Corporate Safety Manual training
  • You must be familiar with EEOC and AAP employment law
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English is strongly preferred
